    Air Force to Navy?

Just trying to understand the dynamics of the program ('cause I'm headed that way shortly).... You washed out for not being able to land the Diamond in a crosswind well? Or was it some sort of decision making issue? Was it just a bad landing or something unsafe?

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

A minor point of clarification - it's a 30mm not a .50cal @hddriven411: One of my friends suggested "Mental Math for Pilot" - as a way of speeding up their ability to take typical time/distance/units/blah/blah problems and quickly solve/spot errors, etc That or ...if you're still going to...

House passes aviation safety bill in response to Buffalo crash

He would have had at the very least pass a type ride in the RA-390 - which is to ATP Standards... He has two type ratings, technically three if you count the P-51, as well as an ATP MEL/SEL. The type in the P-51 does take a large level of proficient stick and rudder skills to achieve...

House passes aviation safety bill in response to Buffalo crash

Well fellas.... looks like there's a loop hole for the pilot academia institutions out there to get their paying customers hired prior to the 1500 hours: (d) Credit Toward Flight Hours- The Administrator may allow specific academic training courses, beyond those required under subsection...

House passes aviation safety bill in response to Buffalo crash

Great point - There will probably be a huge flood of everyone becoming a CFI to grab the hours. ....which is another topic altogether.... CFI inbreeding... A ~250hr CFI disperses his/her 250 hour, 172 mostly VFR controlled conditions, aeronautical wisdom on future pilots who then go on to become...

House passes aviation safety bill in response to Buffalo crash

Exactly - all the hours in the world won't help if you consistently fail checkrides. An alternative answer may have been to drastically raise the certification requirements/standards on the Commercial/ATP level.

House passes aviation safety bill in response to Buffalo crash

I don't really, really see a lot of relevance to the Buffalo crash.... the FO had like 2200 hours or something. It's a great thing to have the mins over what they are now - but I don't think it'll be the "Fix-all" that everyone seems to be looking for. Quality of time is also arguable. I guess...

Sneaky bastards.... On a serious note... you really need to show the board the return of the prodigal son... Don't pay for sex, don't drink until you're 21... and then don't ever, ever drink and drive Congrats on getting your Private Pilot Certificate.... now, since you have an FAA...

That big red stamp doesn't say non-select...it says 'determination' ... Do what you want...but don't think because you didn't get selected the first go, you're going to have a black mark from here on. Many, many people on this board got picked up on their next attempts.

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Yes, with the ANG It's a little more of a personal process - you can apply and interview at some units without having your degree yet (but you'd have to be pretty close to finishing.. last year or semester) - unit depending. The upsides are that you know what airframe you'll fly before you...

    Making the best of MiG-21

Ha... just about...there is definitely a fun factor to doing lead/lag, rolling/flat scissors in a radial engine aircraft.... you can hear that engine chugging away and the prop fighting for air... smell of burnt oil and avgas.... I'm sure everything would seem in slow-mo for some of you guys...

    Making the best of MiG-21

The CJ is the same with the compressor and emergency air as far as I know (with the Yak). Although each CJ seems to have different "air system characteristics" .. holding more or less, leak patterns, etc. The CJ doesn't charge really that fast at all - or at least the ones I flew. Nittany...

    Making the best of MiG-21

Yes, they are hand brakes...it takes getting used to! The L-39 is a lot more sensitive on the brakes. And yes, taxi excessively and the air will be drained (personal experience) -same with touch and goes for the CJ it takes about 5 atm for each pneumatic operation ( flaps, gear, etc)... But if...

Don't know if this is relevant, but in 2009 (don't know if there still is) there were several F-22s getting dropped out of UPT. Don't know the details... I'm Hacker or someone like that could share... but they were being sent straight down to Tyndall. Other people have said that new guys...

While you're waiting - I humbly suggest applying to various other military pilot type opportunities... i.e. Air National Guard, AFR, etc. It takes the edge off the wait - (and like in my case) if you do get rejected from the Navy, you may get picked up else where. Don't freak out...

got a 7/8/8 ~60 ... and was professionally rejected (non-select) from the Navy.... 'course that may have something to do with the whole dead-hooker-in-the-trunk incident. In all honestly, the ASTB was pretty easy compared to the AFOQT... I didn't study for the ASTB... but....if I was...

McDonald ET AL., v. City of Chicago SCOTUS ruling in favor of 2nd...Woo Hoo

While not directly, per se.... When the 2nd Amendment reached the Senate, it included the words "for the common defense", that phrase was rejected on the grounds that the right to own "arms" was a right regardless of how is was to be used (i.e. hunting) - to include private reasons. The 2nd...
