I was selected from the July aviation board, got my orders in August to this class, and swore in yesterday.

If you mean when you can expect to hear results, in the past that has been a few days to 1-2 weeks. For reporting to OCS, the last board met on 11 July, I heard back on 19 July, and got my FinSel 21 August for the class on 17 September, so about two months after the board met.

My recruiter sent me an email that had my finsel attached as a PDF.

I finished it a few days ago, but am just getting around to posting here. I thought the book was really well done. I'll have to watch the movie before I ship out next month.

It seems like the posters here and in the Facebook page are overwhelmingly aviation selectees. I wonder how much of that is a function of this board being aviation-centric vs. the aviation boards having much higher selection rates than SWO/Intel/Supply etc.

One of my friends who isn't a member here just got orders to this class as well. He was picked up for SWO-Nuclear.

I was given a copy of Carrier Pilot recently as a graduation present, and enjoyed it. The author was a Corsair pilot with the Fleet Air Arm. He has a very British sense of humor.

I'm probably overthinking this, but can the first salute be given to a retired officer? One of my neighbors was in the Navy from the late 1930s until the early sixties (I think he retired as an O-6) and I was planning on inviting him to graduation.

Yeah it was no biggie. I originally had disclosed it, then the investigator said he didn't think I had to, but a few days later he called to let me know to report everything.

When I had my OPM interview, the investigator told me all traffic incidents had to be reported, regardless of the amount. I ended up needing to answer questions for an $85 speeding ticket I received a few years back.

My OR told me "about 500 words". What I found helpful is to use hemingwayapp.com to help make my essay more concise.

The online application didn't work for me either. In the end, I went to a job fair and found the Navy's booth, and got a business card for the local OR. I emailed him the next day and got the ball rolling.

Last time, the board met on 12 April, I found out on 1 May that I was tabled, and it seemed like most people here found out before then. Your recruiter will let you know the result (mine told me through email, others here found out through text/phone call).

My guess, there is a bias towards reporting high scores and not low scores.

FWIW, the USNA class of 2017 had an acceptance rate of just under 7% (a class size of 1,206 from 17,654 applicants source). The Pilot/NFO board that met in February accepted 48% of its applicants (if the gouge that somebody posted in that thread is accurate). I haven't been able to find the...

It seems like they started moving in that direction on the April board. There seemed to be a good number of applicants who put SNA but were picked up for SNFO instead.

Were you tabled or did you actually get an N? The reason I ask is I was tabled with 58 7/6/7; it seems a bit odd that they would table one of us and give an N to the other.

To add to what the others have said, when do you need to give the Army a reply? Judging by the last board, results likely won't be out until mid to late July. If the Army's deadline is before then, I'd go with the bird in the hand.
