    No more DCOIC?

There is a program, RC2C that is out on the streets now that has the sole purpose of doing just this: getting RC sailors into seats in the 'fleet'. There are TONS of opportunities. I had one sailor go and spend 8 weeks (ADOS funding) out supporting minesweepers. The program is supporting the...

    DCOIC Written test

Dude, if you are even vaguely awake and aware at all during the 2 weeks of DCOIC you will have zero chance of failing the test. I think the class average when I went was in the neighborhood of 94%? There are many things to worry about as a DCO but DCOIC and the test at its end is not one of them.

    SWO and relationships

That is utterly mind boggling given that when my husband asked his detailer to consider the fact that I had deployment orders as a reservist, he was told that it didn't count because I was a reservist and he could suck up what orders he got. No offense, but giving co-lo to non married couples...

    SWO and relationships

Co-location only comes into play after you are married. Period. Anything beyond that is detailers taking the time to listen to their detailees. It is highly unlikely that he will be able to begin his second tour early. Part of it is going to depend on HOW early you are talking. If you are...

    CEC Reserves DCO Selection Board

Call and I arrive! :) First and foremost, Rufio knows what's going on with regards to the recruitment side of things better than I do. 1. It really is a HUGE toss up right now as to your chances. It sounds like you are still in the Navy Reserve right now, have you thought about becoming a CEC...

This is not entirely true. I'm a mechanical engineer who has served with chemical engineers, civil, electrical, mechanical, etc.

Why are so few professionally recommended to OCS? IWC.

Nope because professional registration is required to promote and (for the most part) you cannot obtain professional registration without an accredited degree. Also, note that you don't join the Seabees as an officer, you join the CEC and then go to a Seabee unit. I'd be happy to expand on that...

    CEC Reserves DCO Selection Board

A couple of things 1. Why does the PE require actual engineering and not supervisory? Well, what is accepted varies from state to state. Look into your own state requirements as to what they will count towards experience. 2. Yes, a PE or RA (registered architect) is a requirement for...

    CEC Reserves DCO Selection Board

Well, I'm happy to help where/how I can. I am not sure though how much help being a CEC DCO will help with your PE. We don't really do 'engineering'. It is more project management type work....lots and lots of administrative stuff. Is it awesomely amazing and fulfilling? Heck yeah. Do I learn a...

    CEC Reserves DCO Selection Board

Howdy! This might be personal, but what kind of waivers do you need? When I read the program authorization it says that with an ABET accredited engineering tech degree you do require at a minimum EIT registration, which you have, and then it is evaluated on a case by case basis. Is that what you...

    Looking for Housing in Monterey

Though a few years out now, the base housing is actually pretty nice. We were in the older flat rate housing that I am 99% sure no longer exists. However the upgraded housing was decent and the CDC was in the neighborhood. As to childcare, the CDC was surprisingly available when we had our...

    What NRC considers competitive

Since when is it a requirement? This is an honest, no snark question. I just pulled the PA and I don't see anything about it. That said, good start between your GPA and EIT. Obviously more will play into it, recommendations, interviews, and leadership stuff. Have you met with the accessions...

    JMPE via CD-rom going away

Maybe I'm cynical about this but I will say that I don't think the web-enabled or fleet seminars are prepared to handle more people. I just signed up for the web enabled and in the application it talks about how it could be 6+ months before you get into a class. As #102 of 115 on the current...

    12 JUN 17 IWC Board

As an avid Bobber, I will say that it is both a great and terrible resource. Great because 90% of the people are SWOs who are (for the most part) passionate about what they do. Terrible because, especially lately, it has gotten rather top heavy. There are a lot of O4+ on the board that don't...

What do you think about Navy food?

While I don't have any real experience with ship food, I will say that the CS in charge matters. I am a good cook; I won't win any awards but I can make many things that taste pretty darn good. However, when PenguinGuy was on his first ship, there was a CS3 (who later became CS2) that was...

    Rare designators in USN

Detailed response in PM. As for is it important for the navy to run the Seabees? Yes, it is. I guess in theory you could possibly lump us all together, but then you wind up with a generic...

    Rare designators in USN

    1. Seabees is the term associated with those in the construction battalions of different flavors, not an actual designator. 2.Not all officers in the Seabees are Staff Corps (PHIBCBs have SWOs too). The Staff Corps officers are CEC officers but not all CEC officers are Seabees as some never go...

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

So total random (and probably stupid!) question for those who have deployed on carriers: what kind of communication is available these days with those back home? DCOIC Gouge for those about to commission as a DCO

    Reserve CEC

    Reserve CEC

There is a lot here so I'm going to break it down a bit. You will find every RC CEC officer (and just about everyone in the reserves) has their own story that is some version of this. Many did serve on AD and found their way to the RC. I had a similar story of wanting to serve but getting...

Not necessarily. I don't know about the AMDO community but the CEC community keeps the TBH MAS code until after successful completion of CECOS Basic. All about DCO Commissioning Ceremony

Technically, no you do not have to do it in the same area but it is a MAJOR PITA for all parties involved. All about DCO Commissioning Ceremony

There is definitely mixed guidance because there is no hard and fast rule about uniforms. To answer your questions: 1. If we are non-prior, will we be able to commission in uniforms? It depends.
