Questions about AD NIOBC for Reserve Officer

From what I know of PCS orders: 1. You will not have to pay out of pocket for housing at the school. You will receive BAH for the location of the school and use that to fund your housing either off base or on base and forfeiting (most likely) all of the BAH. 2. Times have changed in the past 5...

MEPS blood draw - concerns about passing out

When I went to MEPS I was so nervous and cold (especially after the underwear olympics) that by the time they tried to draw my blood, my blood vessels were too small/tight for them to hit. They actually wrapped me up in a blanket next to a heater for 30 minutes before they could get the blood...

    OHARP to IFS

Well...Surface based Navy has been keeping the watch since 13OCT1775 while Naval Aviation is a much younger brother having only gotten on the watchbill back on 8May1911. Anyone who is a younger sibling knows that the oldest ALWAYS gets the most attention. ;)

While I agree with you completely as it was PITA trying to get base stickers at 32nd street a couple of years ago, I thought with the stopping of base decals that this was now a moot point?

    Navy Surface Warfare Officer?

I can also help with this. PenguinGuy (the husband) is a SWO junior officer. He is a ROTC grad who went SWO. We also have friends here who commissioned SWO from the USNA and OCS. Between all these people, most of your questions could find an answer.

Fall FY-15 FTS Officer Transfer and Redesignation Board Results

Keep in mind that a picture is required to be on file once you are commissioned.(full length in khakis) The photo gets put up on the screen during promotion selection boards while your record is being recited to the board members. No one can tell you the chances you have, especially if you haven't even finished your degree. As many wise men have said on this site before, the chances are zero if you don't apply. Are NFO's going to be needed forever?

As I said, this is very much outside of my area of expertise. I just follow it as closely as I can. O-4 List out (last year)

Over on Sailor Bob a really great spreadsheet was posted. Even though the selection rate for aviators sucked this year, more were selected for O4 for FY15 than FY14. Technically even if you live in military housing you 'get' BAH. They just deduct it at the same time that they pay it. It will still show up on your LES though. This is important because there are some places where the 'rent' of a military house is below the BAH rate and you then pocket the...

Be very careful about this though! I did the same thing only to discover that the university had stamped "released to student" on the transcript before sealing it in the envelope and sending it to me. Having it say "released to student" means the Navy won't accept it.

    Life insurance

SGLI is completely separate from the Navy Mutual policies we talk about. You are automatically eligible for the SGLI when you join the military. Navy Mutual is a company that will sell you an insurance policy based on a number of factors including health.

I will second making sure that you do NOT decline the SGLI. You can also get a small policy ($100k?) on your wife and I think up to $10k on each kid once you have them. I don't recall off hand how much the dependent policies cost. Personally, after my husband's father passed away suddenly...

    engineers in the navy

You are correct, Supply Corps doesn't have anything to do with engineering. Just so you know, an EDO starts off their career by going subs, ship, or air to get qualified (dolphins, wings, etc), attend graduate school at one of a limited number of places, and THEN become EDOs. That means that...
