Hey guys,
I'm studying the material posted here and came across these contradicting sample problems.
Anyone can shed some light on this?

Thanks

I believe the first example is incorrect. Both A examples in the the diagrams should require more force because the pulley isn’t providing any mechanical advantage for the person, it is simply changing the force in another direction.

In the B diagram of each example, the line is fixed to an anchor point and then looped through the pulley. The anchor point is holding half the weight of the load, providing a mechanical advantage of 2.

Thank you for your explanation. Makes much more sense now. Much appreciated.

Does anyone know if we can retake just the ASTB portion of the test within 30 days after taking the OAR and ASTB? I have a good OAR score but really want to improve my ASTB scores and would like to do so without having to take the OAR again and running the risk of getting a lower score. I believe I saw a thread on here that mentioned that but I cant find it.

I don’t believe that’s the case. You can take the OAR section and then decide to take the full ASTB later (within 30 days I think?)

Just took a practice test where that question was asked and I put that ramp B would be less force and got it right. I assume due to the MA being 2 like OperationChungus stated.

I would definitely be careful on the pro profs website, there are plenty of errors. I would focus on the PDF files cause they are straight from educational books.

I agree. If you can catch the errors on Pro profs, you’re on the right track, but you shouldn’t use it to learn new material given all the mistakes.

Go off of the gouge, you’ll be fine. Use YouTube and AirWarriors for questions.

Right!
I'm using the PDF files for now. I will use the website you shared a few days ago once I've covered all the PDF files.

Hello all, I wanted to share my experience and help a bit if I can. First time taking the ASTB I got 54 5/5/6 which was the result of only a week of studying. I couldn't apply with those scores so I studied for a month, went back, and got a 67 9/9/9. Everyone else who posted on here has contributed tremendously to helping me get that score, so I figured I'd pay it forward and show what I did.

First things first, I am honestly not that smart, nor do I study engineering (I study psychology), so it is possible for most people to do very well on this test as long as they study hard and study effectively. Give yourself at least 2-3 weeks in advance and study 5-6 days out of the week for at least an hour and you'll be fine.

In terms of what to study, here are all my links:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AvPi5oH_h_13TGajDvflDWkftwXO8LS6 - OAR + ANIT (whoever made this is awesome)
https://www.cram.com/flashcards/astb-aviation-nautical-information-test-anit-comprehensive-8330117 -ANIT
https://www.cram.com/flashcards/astb-aviation-history-6921638 -ANIT
https://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/story.php?title=_36014 -UAV

This makes up about 80% of my study material, and the additional 20% was comprised of other links found in this forum and flashcards I made from the Barron's Military Flight Aptitude Tests Book. Each person has different strengths and weaknesses, so I won't say to only study this, but for me this was sufficient.

if you have any questions message me on here
