Does Masters matter or not?

Is a masters in cyber security relevant to trying to commission into the navy or navy reserve? I have a bachelors in biology with a minor in computer information systems but my GPA does not stack up too well I believe, as it is low. I plan on starting this program in the summer and want to see if it would help me rather than going back and trying to raise ug GPA. Since I already graduated I don't even think it's possible without pursuing a second bachelors, which id rather not and instead would like to get a masters. Would enlisting help or not? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm not the local expert on this stuff, but more information would probably be helpful, to include:

1. How old are you?
2. What designator(s) are you considering in the Navy?
3. What is your GPA?
4. What is your ASTB score? (I'm assuming you haven't taken this yet, though)

I have an undergraduate GPA of 2.7. From what I have read, that would not meet the minimum requirements for OCS other than for aviation, which if I could meet all the physical requirements I would be interested. In age I am almost 27. I have nit taken the ASTB. I am mostly confused from research I have done about if I am even eligible to apply and whether a masters would change that. I am interested in information and technology field such as information warfare officer or information professional. I didn't finish a second minor in computer science because I didn't want to go an extra semester for just four credits more but I do have more courses in that. Courses that brought down my GPA were mostly non science related that I unfortunately took for granted.

your GPA is low enough it would be hard for a masters degree to overcome it, more so when it comes to IDC as they are so competitive, you might be able to pull it up enough to apply for SWO, but the age limit would probably get you, you must commission by age 27 for aviation and by age 29 for SWO

I know the minimum is 2.8 GPA for SWO but would they count the masters courses or should I take ug courses and what GPA would I really need to be competitive.

I have a 2.85 GPA from my undergrad BS and a 3.6 GPA from my masters. I scored a 58 7/7/7 on the ASTB. My recruiter is telling me that that should be pretty competitive for pilot and NFO, but I'd like some more opinions from peopel who've gotten in. You said in an earlier post that aviation takes into consideration the ASTB more than GPA? Should I retake the ASTB with these scores?

Curious to know the reasoning behind this. It is like saying a .278 batting average in triple A is more important than a .330 average in the majors.

I said that because they average everything together, using semester credits as an example 120 for BA/BS and 60 for MA/MS, the weight of the BA/BS will always have more of an effect, now if he knocks his masters out of the park that would be noticed, but a 2.7 student just doesn't magically become a 3.5 student.

to use your example if a guy is in triple A for 4 years hitting .278 then plays 2 games in the major and hits .330 is the .330 an anomaly or the norm? only time will tell, just like with the person in question.

Hey y'all! I just got the good news that I was picked up for pilot and NFO during the February board. I had a 2.89 GPA in college and a 3.6 during my masters. There is hope!!

you had good ASTB scores, with the selection rate not too surprised, you probably would have been picked up without a Masters.

2.51 undergrad GPA in mathematics, 3.3 graduate GPA in computer science (only after 2 semesters, didn't complete the degree). Just commissioned in January, SNA. It's possible, very possible.
