They must have a problem with their coffee order. Can't process all those applications without go-juice.

I am applying for SNA, SNFO.

A bit worried about my 2.92 GPA as well. Hopefully they will hold an engineering degree to a higher regard as I've heard they do. My recruiter told me when I was applying that the last SNA he had picked up had a 2.7ish GPA with a decent ASTB.

As for the ASTB... I used the ARCO book, the FAA handbook, and some gouge from this site. But I attribute my high score in the aviation knowledge section to reading and studying the FAA Pilot Handbook in its entirety before taking the exam.

Best of luck to you all, this is very nerve racking! Hopefully we find out soon!
Grantspec, If I was in your situation, I would not worry one iota. OCS is "primarily" searching for technical degrees, and an engineering degree is as technical as you can get. Obtaining an Engineering Degree (technical) with a 2.9 GPA will carry much more weight at the Board versus a History Degree (non-technical) with a 3.7 GPA or even higher... In addtition, you blew your OAR/ASTB scores out of the water. I wouldn't be surprised if other communities are interested in you, and would select you to meet quotas if need be. I had a "shipmate" picked up for OCS for a designator he didn't even request on his 1420.1B just because his package was that strong. There are other mitigating factors which make a package "complete" but the foundation, base-line or filtering component for what OCS is looking for are Degree type, GPA, and OAR/ASTB scores. You have a great shot...

The ORs have been following this thread and now they're just messing with us. I haven't heard anything from mine in weeks though.

Several of us have heard from our ORs that we will be hearing sooner rather than later. At one point some of us were even being told that we might go to OCS in January. If I hadn't heard that, I wouldn't be thinking about this so much until about a week from now.

There was at least one guy in the OCS class dates section that was moved from a later date to January. Something is up at NRC, they appear to be moving people around or trying to get people through as soon as possible.

As pure speculation, this board might have some incentive to get us all sorted out in case the whole fiscal cliff or likely defense cuts affects the number of spots. Waiting until after the holidays may not be an option for them.

OCS dates of January are unlikely that soon... typically getting a FS after a pro-rec takes more than a month as the security clearance investigation needs to be opened and any remaining physical issues need to be taken care of as well before everything is finalized. Guys in the fleet are more likely to get quick dates as their clearance is already done and they're physical is good to go

What's likely happening from everything I've read/heard is that a lot of OCS classes lately were on the low side in terms of #s just due to selection patterns in the past... keep in mind with all the board changes they've had over the past couple of years there's probably calendar periods where classes are more lean than others. Likely thing is NRC wants to get all those guys with OCS dates moved up to make room for this and the next boards as they need to make sure people get in FY13

I hadn't heard anything from mine since before Turkey day until I texted him just now. It is frustrating that they seem to be getting different information (or not getting information) and passing it on to us.

I'm not counting on going in January for the various reasons stated many times by you and others. All I meant was that delaying the board would really go against the pattern of information we've been told to the contrary. Delaying the current board would only make the problem of filling up the classes early in spring worse.

Guys already in the fleet may not have a TS clearance yet, and some of us non-priors already have our N3Ms done.

One thing I can say is that they are really pushing to get my TS clearance done (I need TS clearance just since I'm also applying Intel though it looks more and more unlikely I'll EVER get selected intel and that's ok. Most people will only need "secret" clearance). My BI has talked to me and just about all of my friends this week. She said that once this sort of investigation starts it usually means they're considering me for an Intelligence job, but I sort of doubt that. Either way, she said she'd have my recommendation for clearance done in about two weeks, and as I understand that usually takes months. So it seems like something funny is going on for sure.

I thought Intel was closed? Something about 50 going in with a goal of 7.

And I thought all unrestricted line officers had a TS, or at least pilots did.

The way I've heard it is that some billets you go in with a TS clearance started, others you start with a Secret but get elevated to TS later in the process while you're in. Nuke, Intel, IW, etc. you need to flag the NASIS as Top Secret (the OR should do this) from the start. Other billets can start with that flagged as secret. So yes, everyone ends up at TS or more eventually but they start the process differently.

Yeah I think you're probably right. It may depend too on what platform you're flying and the systems onboard or the systems you are using. Anyway, lots of things will probably affect what clearance one person is actually given and that probably doesn't happen till much later on. All this said, I know NOTHING ABOUT THIS, just what I have been told while on the subject with my OR, and as we all understand about those kinds of statements... nuff said me thinks.

I spoke with my OR early this week because I was shocked that my security clearance investigation started so early in the process (I am not prior service). I applied to the 03 Dec board, and my investigation is already coming to a close, and I've already been PQed. My OR said the same thing a lot of these other guys are saying: results next week, if I am prorec'ed y, enlisting the week before Christmas, and reporting to OTC in January or February. But I agree, I'll believe it when it happens...

I think this may be my first post, but I'm a longtime lurker on AW. I've been working on getting into OCS just shy of 2 years now, and this is my second board. I put in for IW back in April and was a non-select, going for SWO this time. So hey guys!

Welcome! I'm also a longtime lurker that just started posting, and been working on this for years as well, so I know where you're coming from. Seems like you have your stuff together!
