T-44 For The P-8?

Wow. Between that and leaving Wing 6, is the AF pulling out of joint flight training altogether?

I can't speak for all of the joint training but they are leaving Maritime Advanced. NAVAIR/CNATRA played a huge game of chicken with them concerning infrastructure funding and capacity. The USAF didn't flinch, took their ball and went home. That's what we get for going head to head against the USAF career finance/logistics/training pipeline dudes with our senior warfare officers who rotate every 2-3 years into a billet to get a check in the box and get 'well rounded.'

There are E-6 selectees currently training in VT-31.

Jolly - I was one of the first to go through T-1's for E-6's in 1995. Ask Roger Camp whether they prefer the T-1 or the T-44C trained guys. Back in the day, they liked the Navy trained guys better. I am curious if they feel the same now.

I know. It was just a jab at gotta_fly. My 2p right now is a Corpus trained guy.
I've asked a few 7 guys if they are noticing a difference and they say power management wise the T-1 guys are better prepared, and the AF trained guys seemed to be better at flying instruments, but that it also relied heavily on the individual student. It all comes down to the power management thing. A jet like the Merc (or the P-8 for that matter) does not slow down and descend. Props will drop like a rock when you bag the PCL. The T-1 really prepared you for that. But, I've seen T-1 guys (myself included) that have fucked away the descent. So... whatevs.

I remember that too. I was more referring to the asymetric stuff and HW/SA and EP experience. I can yell you after being a ME IP for a few years now, this is way harder (the flying part not the USAF shenanigans) than what I did in T-1s. No worries...have fun.

If you are in 3 tell Tick or if you are in 4 tell Mikey Boyd said "sup."

It seems to be a foregone conclusion that the Navy-trained aviators are better E-6 pilots. I think the bigger question is did they send the better pilots to T-44s or did going to T-44s make them the better pilots? Chicken or the egg...

Isn't more the point of the T-44 to teach two things: how to fly a plane with asymmetric thrust (due to engine failure), and how to fly instruments? That seemed to be the focus when I went through a while ago.

Gucci cockpit them T44s have now!

44s for me were more or less an asymmetric thrust thing..

It was also a chance for P3 guys to make it into a systems HAZE-EX, but then again, as a winged guy, I was more or less untouchable, and did not play the games.

I don't remember it being particularly systems intensive when I went through. but i suppose it ebbs and flows. We do like to pound our nuts flat...

I have to agree with Prop... TC-12s for me was far more flying centric than it was systems centric. VT-28 and VP-30 had more systems than did VT-35. But then the question was directed towards T-44 guys, so that experience may have been different than mine.

C-12s didn't play those games. When I got to vp 30, I longed for the good ole days when I was treated like a big boy before I had wings. 35 was the most fun I've had in the navy, yet.

I think my biggest issue in 44s (and 45s to a lesser degree) is that the IPs told me "we do this fleet standard".. Not realizing that every community does things differently.

That's one thing the retreads (Pilot, and NFO-Pilot that change communities) have over the normal guys.. We know there is, in fact, more than one way to skin a cat. And throwing it into a propeller is only one of the more fun ones.

When I was at VT31, not that long ago, the systems hazing was IP dependent. Some would bust your balls and others wouldn't. Service had no bearing really, which surprised me. Either way it wasn't that bad. I wouldn't be surprised if I had more single engine time at VT 31 then I did at VT 2

Allegedly (as reported in the Ensign grapevine), there are studs classing up for the T-44C at 31 within the month that were told they are going to be in the first P-8 class.

I'm not going to dispute that, because timing wise it makes sense, however my guess is that they will have to compete for those coveted P-8 spots.

We are picking up the last of our P-3 pilots in the next few classes out of 30, and then the next guys we pick up are going to be P-8 guys. VP-16 has already stopped taking P-3 pilots in preparation for transition as I understand it.

having talked to a P-8 transition guy, I believe they will start selecting and will be competitive out of advanced like statesman said

P-3's will still be selected
