2010 DCO/DIRCOM boards: questions, answers, and discussion

I know EDO is not the most popular topic here, but anyone ever hear word of the EDO boards. The last statement was that the EDO board met back in March, but nothing ever came out regarding results. Seems like a very long time between meeting and selection results.

The results from DCO/DIRCOM boards are generally known within a week after they're complete. If the board did in fact meet and make selections in March, then your recruiter will have the results.

Das, I sincerely appreciate your feedback. I'm aware the Navy looks at the "whole person" scheme, which hopefully works in my favor...my package is not yet officially in (it's currently with the OSO who is fine tuning several items to make it as favorable as possible). I still have time, since the next board isn't until September end I believe. I definitely honed in on leadership experience in the motivational statement. It's frustrating that one is confined to a maximum word limit, but also good since it forces one to really hit on the salient points of what he wants to sell. I think I've done that. The SSBI says 7 years...I'm right on the cusp (at the time of the board review in September, it will have been 6 yrs and 11 months. Yes, your right, a 'dropped charge' situation is a heck of a lot better than a conviction. I am most fortunate in that category.

I'm hoping for the best, but at the same time, expecting a no-go and having to wait until the subsequent review board. Base don what my OSO has told me and several others with whom I've consulted, I believe my chances are even at 50%.

Your SSBI is 10 yrs. The investigator will look into this very closely and will pass his/her findings to the adjudicator. I wish I could say that it won't matter, but it is up to what they think. I know ETOH issues is a big deal in the process, so you will just need to wait and see. If you are able to explain it and show that it was a one time mistake and not a pattern of ETOH issues, not only arrest but abuse (drunk a lot or drinking a lot) then that will certainly help. But 10 yrs is what they go back. Biggest thing is DON'T LIE when they ask about it. They more than likely already know the story and want to see what you say.

cdb26 if your record was expunged, do you still have to list the record?

Oh yes, you most certainly do.

When it comes to the government, the military, and security clearances, whether something was "expunged" means virtually nothing with regard to disclosure (except as a mitigating factor). E.g., the Navy commission application asks if you have EVER been arrested for anything, regardless of the disposition (i.e., charges dropped or expunged). Same with the security clearance application (if it is within the specified time window).

Das, I have most definitely disclosed the infraction - yes, it was expunged, but I realize that doesn't matter (I'm hoping that time transpired here - 7 years - is the crucial mitigating factor). Full disclosure is my MO. Now for another question - when I was young and dumb, I also received several speeding infractions. Now, the SF-86 only requires disclosure of 'those traffic violations over the amount of $300'. None of mine were remotely close to this amount. Would you suggest I leave them out? Bottom line is that I don't want to necessarily attract too much attention to this area of my application. Your thoughts are appreciated.

There are two schools of thought on this:

Some say "disclose everything", even if it's outside of the time/fine window. The argument here is that it demonstrates you're trustworthy, not trying to hide anything, and "going the extra mile" to show that you aren't hiding anything.

The other philosophy is to just disclose only what is explicitly asked for in the process. If a form like the SF-86, or online forms such as NASIS/e-QIP, say you don't need to disclose traffic violations over $300, then don't disclose them...now, if your investigator asks you if there's anything else other than what you've listed, then you can mention it.

I don't have an opinion which of these strategies is necessarily "better"; the latter is certainly legal and honest. The former is apparently favored by those who prefer unfettered openness. In either case, don't worry about having some negative items like that. The adjudicative process is very methodical -- they're not going to hold it against you if you have traffic violations in your past; everyone has something negative at some point or another. They will hold it against you if you lie about something. The key is recognizing bad behavior, taking responsibility, not repeating past errors, the passage of time, etc.

You can see Adjudicative Guidelines for Determining Eligibility for Access to Classified Information (February 3, 2006) for the guidelines that are used.

I'm sure others will have other thoughts/opinions on this process, but that's my two cents.

The only time I ever disclosed speeding tickets was in my community interviews, and only because I was asked. It's not going to hurt you either way, as long as speeding tickets don't show a pattern. It's up to you, and how thorough you want to be. Just don't lie.

Hey everyone - Others may be hearing this as well but I figured I'd at least throw it up here. The Navy Personnel Command is headquartered in Millington, TN and was hit pretty hard during the recent flooding. Gouge running through the pipeline down through my recruiter is that while the building that houses reserve DCO selection board statuses wasn't severely damaged by the flooding, the snakes from around the area decided to call the building home. Thus the building was closed until animal control could clear the building, which happened last week. They are back online and starting to come up to speed. My recruiter expects to hear the results of the EDO boards that met at the end of March this week. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to share with the group.

Good Afternoon to the community.

I'm a new member to this forum and like many was not selected on the IW/IP board selection back in March. As I look to the next board in September, does anyone know of the quotas yet for the IW/IP reserve DCO billets?

Great forum -

Thanks

NR Recruiting

I had heard about the flooding problem but not the snakes.

Looking forward to hearing on the EDO boards. I did see something that says EDO was looking at C41SR officers. (SPAWAR) Any info on this?

Hi, All. Great forum!

This is my first post. I'm non prior-service and applied to OCS for Intel and SWO right after college. I didn't get picked up. That was a lifetime ago. Since then, I finished grad school and this time around, applied for DCO Medical Service Corps. I completed my packet last month. My recruiter has been awesome. We got through the packet in 6 weeks, including 2 O-6 interviews!

Does anyone know if the Medical Service Corps board has met yet this month? By any chance are they meeting today? Just want to time my extra prayer accordingly :)

Hey Pill Hacker, I remember you from back in October/November of '09...sorry to hear you weren't picked up. Regarding your comment on 'soft factors', care to embellish? I'm currently in for Intel and am looking to maximize my chances ahead of the September Board. Anything at this point will help. Thanks.

Thanks guys. I am now waiting for my recruiter and the Intel Professionals in the area to schedule my Professional Appraisal interview. How long before the board does the appraisal usually take place?
