Coffee made from boiler water with corn starch thrown in .....
Yum!!! It colors your cup and colors your teeth. If you need cream and sugar, you're a sissy. :)

One of my B/Ns would NOT go flyin' without a cup of Navy Joe, a cigarette, and a chocolate covered doughnut. He was a warrior before we called ourselves "warriors" ..... ;)

Coffee made from boiler water with corn starch thrown in to keep the scale down in your mug like my grandfather told me about.

No shortage of flight hours and birds to keep the proficiency up. No TnR or WTIs and tactics briefs, but somehow still managing to operate in a joint environment...http://www.thedonovan.com/archives/2007/10/tins_numbah_ten.html

Of course, I won't turn my nose up on inventions like shoulder harnesses and rad alt hold and safer aircraft with a better mishap rate.

I remember that coffee as well... it looked like sludge. But in the 60's they wanted you to fly! So... no problem getting a flight.

Be still, my beating heart.

I don't know what TnR or WTIs
are without looking 'em up ..... I know what tactics briefs are :)..... but most of our WX briefings were face-to-face ... we were "astounded" when we got a video monitor in the RR to show the current and target WX  .... but the hours and fuel and flights -- we had all we wanted: it was great.

I agree. Although everytime I go to my Grandparents church I get one old guy asking me if I'm one of the WAVES.
I mostly like today's Navy because I wouldn't have met PSW without her being in the Navy. HOWEVER, I voted for the 40's/50's. Dauntless, Hellcat, Corsair, etc... 'nuff said.

I agree. ....
I'm not a "dude" ... I'm a man .... but I would still say old Navy. It may have not been "perfect" in many ways ... but then, what is???

Women were "in the Navy" in the "old" Navy. They just didn't want to be the "equal" of the men nor share the same junk or bunk and bear the same burden. And why should they??? Women are special and they were treated like ladies by the old Navy. Men and women are not created equal, get used to it.

Or .... do any of you ladies want to take on an old man in the boxing ring today ??? 'Cause I guarantee you someone's nose is gonna get bloody .... :)

But seriously, if I were a lady ... I would rather be alive back in the days of "my Grandfather's" Navy ... 'cause then I'd be treated like a "lady" instead of a gender-neutered, one size fits all, military "person".

I've worked with, flown with, and trained many women in the airlines. There were many compromises to get the women onboard -- but I refused to do it. No PC in my cockpit or my simulator. You get the job ONLY if you can "do" the job.

Oh, wait!!! You can't say "cockpit" anymore in the airlines as some women are offended by it. Believe that .....

Sorry ladies ... I've also seen the introduction of women into Naval Aviation and I've seen the compromises that were instituted to get the women qualified. It's not right, it demeans women, and it hurts the overall effort. Want proof?? Can you say Pensacola O-Course???

This is not a "rant" ... it's just the truth. Grandpa's Navy is where I'd want to be ....
:) .... these guys (patch depicted below) were at the LAST Intruder Ball in the mid-90's and the patches/stickers they left kind of say it all .... you know; post Tailhook debacle, post Patricia Schroeder, Barbara Mikulski, Patty Murray, Hillary Clinton, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer ... need I go on???

I agree some of the points above are valid. However, to be in my Grandfather's Navy I would have to give up my two sea tours and they are just too precious to me to give up.
I'm not a Neanderthal, I'm just a traditionalist.

No problem-o .... like I said ... if you can DO the job, you can HAVE the job.

No discrimination .... just performance. :)

*edit* ... no slack, either .... just performance. You gotta get over those two walls @ Pensacola.

OTHERWISE .... YOU CAN'T BE PLAYIN' WITH 'DA BOYS .....
;)

Grandpa's Navy.

I hate it when I'm talking to someone and they say, "just send me an e-mail." I don't want any extra e-mails. That is why I am speaking with you face to face.

I forget most shit if it isn't written down. I feel that's usually why people do that.

Yeah you're right, but some people overkill on the e-mail. Especially NMCI! I can't even begin to count how many stupid update, cancelled update, and all the other stuff they clog up the box with. That's the reason why the server is so slow.

Forgive my ignorance (I have only recently joined AW and I'm still getting back up to speed on the current status of Naval Aviation), but am I to believe the O-Course no longer exists? And the reason is so females can make it through AOCS, API, NACCS or whatever?

NMCI ain't got Sh*T on One-Net. "Notice of intent to cancel the notice to cancel the notice that we intend to send after we finish cancelling the last one". Oh and the CO's Secretary in BAH sends more e-mail than anyone else on earth...

AOCS, survival, boxing and the O-course are all gone. Females still went through the o-course but didn't have to climb the 12 foot wall as I remember. Yes, I'm old enough to have had boxing in API. I think my class was either the last or next to last class to have boxing. As I recall, the girls didn't participate in boxing........I think it was mud wrestling for them :D

Why do I think I missed all the fun in API?

But while I would like to imagine it was like this:

Seeing the average "female" in the the Navy, it was probably more like this:

While I can't speak for AOCS/Pensacola, at USNA during Sea Trials (one of the final tests of plebe year), girls do all of it, the ruck runs, climbing the walls, O-Course (though they didn't have to get to the top of the rope - but keep in mind there were men who couldn't do that either), E-Course, PT, Zodiac Boat Runs, low crawl events, a run through a creek in waist to chest deep water with a fake M-16, and so on. During the Academic year the girls have their own wrestling and boxing classes, and the swim class has the same standards for men as for women. Admittedly, there were certain aspects made a little easier for them (slightly lighter packs: 40 lbs. vs. 60 lbs.) and they were with the men the whole time so, when it came to the wall, they certainly recieved a lot of help that way, but largely, it was pretty fair and I can't remember anyone thinking "wow this is so much easier for girls."
