T-45s in Primary?

Has anyone else heard about a newer D model Goshawk with ~8000# thrust and a moving color map (like Hornet?) Not sure where I read this (or heard it)- might have been a sim instructor...

Moving map is overrated, and arguably a waste in trainer type aircraft.

I turn off the one in the Hornet 90% of the time.

From what you told me, the ones you use are less than stellar. The one in the Rhino (maybe you have something similar in the higher lot Charlies) is freakin MONEY.

Displays get cluttered enough with symbology without having to decipher it while looking through a digital TPC.

i have no idea about stuff beyond the scope of advanced training in Meridian, but if you could change a few things in the 45, what would be on your list? As for myself, I would find some more power useful. To you guys out in the real world, what would you have found beneficial in flight school that you didn't get exposure to before the fleet?

More fuel

Get rid of pitchbuck (design of the aircraft unfortunately)

Civilian GPS

Intakes. Too prone to stalls. Nice thing is, they warn you.

FADEC.

More fuel.

I turn it off regardless of what lot jet. Just clutters stuff up, and creates too much light at night.

To each his own, I love that thing.

Yep, no need for RADAR or anything like that. The manual bombing is GOOD training.

Amen. I would also go in for GPS capability, although as I have alluded to before, that capability seems to be somewhat there already (CORRIDOR Warning). I'd like to be able to fly Q routes before the J routes go away completely. I still see a partial navigational train wreck for the Navy in the mid-to-far future.

Shortest OLF in vic NASWF is roughly 4000' (2 fields) with all remaining 5000', and homefield being 6000'. I don't see what the problem would be with doing full stops at the OLFs in that case...

IP's at VT-4 & 10 claim "too many T-34's buzzing around". I've never had an issue, but its been proclaimed that the T-34's don't like to talk to us for deconfliction. Nothing official says we can't work at the OLFs. In fact, we often do work at the OLF's. Its just usually IP preference not to.

We have a lot of conversations here about how a handheld civilian GPS can be head and shoulders above ours. Cross countries can start to suck when ATC tells you fly direct IckyWicky or to fly the ItchyScratchy STAR.

**I know I am spoiled with the C-model and the gucci stuff.

Funny, cause I remember in Primary never once hearing any VT-4 or VT-10 guys talk on our freqs.

Don't forget the cost difference between a t-6/34 and a 45. That's probably the biggest reason it would never happen.

Personally, if I had flown a 45 in primary my head would have exploded all over the canopy. I think it would be a nightmare to start in a 45, but that's just me.
