Ask an OR anything

What made you wanna do CW? Reason I ask is because it is pretty distinctly different than SNA & SNFO.
It was the next thing after Aviation that I wanted to do and am still qualified for. Originally, Intel was the backup until they closed out all waivers. It looks like a really cool job and I’d love the opportunity if Aviation doesn’t work out.

I am an ISEL candidate for Crypto warfare officer. I first talked to my recruiter in July 2025, took OAR in August 2025, qualified for ISEL, went to MEPS in September. Package was submitted in October. I have been waiting since then, still no date for OCS, its currently March 2026. Is it normal to wait this long without even getting a date for OCS? I recently had to do fingerprints again.

Did you get selected for ISEL?

Hello Everyone
I have a question for an Officer Recruiter.
My recruiter has submitted my Application for me (I have received an acknowledgment of it as well).
After thinking and contemplation in the last one month, I do not think I am made out for this. The current News just pushed me over the edge, is it possible to withdraw now when I am in queue to the next board or should I just decline if I do get selected?

I still want to serve and I think I will be joining the ANG because it will fit with my civilian career, but that is a matter for later

You can’t be forced to join you can back out anytime until you arrive to boot camp or ocs

You do realize ANG is also military who also deploys, right?

I guess i’ll straight up ask..what are my chances? Submitted my packet last week. Stats are - 59 OAR and 2.79 GPA in kinesiology. No medical waivers but i did submit a marijuana use waiver for no more than 30 uses in the last 7 years. It’s been a year since my last use. Im applying for SWO. My recruiter seems to think im gonna get selected but im just stressed and my minds racing till i know. I submitted two solid LoR’s including one from my citys former mayor (May not be important at all).

Thanks man!

Check out the various SWO board threads here and see where you stack. You can also find the spreadsheets of applicants sharing their stats and end result.

Hello! I'm curious about how the turnover of the FY affects (if it all) the OCS selection and ship process for applicants.

I know the quotas for each # of officers allowed to commission are predetermined by congress annually. And the Navy divides up those numbers to fit the communities they need to fill between USNA, ROTC, OCS, ODS.

I guess i'm thinking of how for enlisted recruiting, waiting for October may give you a wider selection of MOS to choose from.

In my case, my OR submitted my packet (SWO i-sel) to the processor last week. And I wanted to know if applying this time of year is hurting or helping me in any kind of way.
