02AUG2021 Pilot/NFO Board

Any word on results or if the board is meeting early?
My recruiter officially informed me that I’m on the at board list today and that it’s still on track for august 2, so no real news lol. He did say that his district chain of command has said that aviation is a low priority for the Navy right now so I shouldn’t expect a close OCS date if I get selected. I know the bulk of the May board seems to have gotten November dates which doesn’t seem that bad at all so I’m hoping that is the case for this board as well.

This is funny, aviation is the largest percentage of spots available for OCS, there are always people going to OCS that are in aviation, they are backed up but that doesn't mean aviation isn't a priority it just means there are people in aviation waiting in front of you.

I know this is probably an unpopular take but I am hoping to have a later OCS date like something closer to Summer 2022 so I can have more time to get all my finances and bills sorted out along with breaking my lease and getting jacked lol. I feel like November would leave me in a bad spot.

I don't graduate until December so I probably wouldn't go until a February/March timeframe.

I was suspicious of that too. Probably his way of saying it was super backed up right now. He did say if you get picked up for Nuke or IW right now, you can be in OCS el pronto.

In regards to your lease, once you have orders you are legally allowed to break a lease with no penalties. Look up the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, it details informing your landlord and how you are protected. Even if your lease specifies a penalty, and does not have a military clause, you are still protected.
As for getting jacked, that’s priorities right there.

When I did a phone “interview” with a Lieutenant he told me that the wait for OCS has been clearing up, COVID restrictions are starting to ease so they’re having full classes again starting in July. He said he expected this group to get fairly quick OCS dates compared to the next board because the next board will be competing with FY22 academy and ROTC graduates and will be put on the back burner. He also said when it comes down to it they need nuclear the most, but because of the timing of this board we’ll be in a good position to get to OCS pretty quick.

OCS does not compete with USNA or NROTC, if your OR is saying that I would question anything he is saying, NROTC does not go to OCS and has their own quotas, this is all in the manning document for the USN, it specifies how many for NROTC, USNA, and OCS. Now OCS is able to flex depending on if NROTC or USNA is short or a surplus since like any other program they plan for a certain amount of attrition.

To be blunt I think your OR is a fucking idiot to say what he said and you should get a new OR.

This wasn’t my OR, I had a lieutenant call me right before my application was submitted, it was the most AWKWARD “interview” I’ve ever had, but that info he told me. Not something my OR said. I haven’t even talked to my OR since this interview other than him confirming I was on the at-board list lol

Also good to know, actual OR is often busy and I’ve been changed OR twice so it’s been hard to get solid info, plus stuff from the forum needs to be taken with a grain of salt soooo…. It’s rough out here lol

That LT has no clue and should have no part in recruiting.

your scores are outstanding and should have no issues getting selected, get selected, go to OCS and forget that idiot.

Well if this isn’t the best news I heard all day! Thank you, currently forgetting that?
