Plus...what a bright idea....buy some Soviet hardware and create an adversary squadron. Wish we'd thought of that in, say, the 1970s.

Look familiar?

No. 801 is a Su-35UB, which is a pretty advanced airframe to be doing stupid stuff in.

And, another cold ride: http://tailhookdaily.typepad.com/tailhook_daily_briefing/2008/08/another-oldie-b.html

By the way, for those interested, this is the film http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0337678/ .

Nice work. IRT the post about the stab position, that explains it. There were some other pics in the original link that were clearly airborne pics of the same plane and the stab was in a more normal inflight position.

To clarify, the ground plane is a Su-27UB painted to look like the advanced Su-35UB (note canards on the plane in the air).

be careful with your sarcasm

Relax. The Russians are well known for their "whoring" for cash, reference rides to Mir or in their fighter jets for those with large sums of disposable income.

He said he stuck a few inches of his fingers out when he was traveling at mach 2. This sounds a little fishy to me. Wouldn't that speed cause considerable amounts of harm to your flesh?

I've "heard a story" about a guy in an F-4 that had a canopy "problem" and stuck his hand out doing 300 kts... it might have been on here somewhere, actually. Supposedly, he ended up with a broken arm and couldn't get it back in till they slowed down. Maybe one of the old guys knows the story i'm thinking of. Mach 2 sounds pretty unbelievable.

I once had a 'canopy' problem @ 350 KIAS ... really noisy, but it sure cleaned out the cockpit. :D
