what did the flight physical entail... :/

They did all the normal stuff (turn your head and cough) like you've probably done before. They took some chest x-Rays, did a hearing test, and an EKG. They did a bunch of little eye tests (I'm not even sure what all the tests were examining) and then dilated my eyes. You get checked out by a dentist (you have to be class 1 or 2 to be PQ). They run blood work and do a urinalysis. Then they do what's called anthropomorphics (they just measure you standing, sitting, arm length, leg length, etc. I guess to ensure you'll fit in a cockpit). Took a while but it wasn't too bad.

I've been told that if they think there is any reason for you to be mentally unstable or have an addictive nature (drugs, alcohol, etc) that you have to sit down and talk with a flight surgeon regarding those issues. But I can't say for sure as fortunately that didn't apply to me.

I figured I've been lurking around long enough, and since the board is meeting this week, it's about time I join the discussion/waiting in this thread. My stats are below in my signature, and I want to thank airwarriors for giving me a lot of guidance through this application process. Since we're on the topic, I have a question regarding the flight physical: I had PRK back in january and since then my tear ducts have not been the same. Do they heavily scrutinize your tear reaction in the physical?

On another note, I've been to between 15-20 foreign countries in the last 7 years. Some of it was just me backpacking alone (China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia), will this possibly be a serious issue when it comes to the security clearance?

just a paperwork nightmare, start making notes of places and dates, as well as references, if you have all that ready to go it should move fine.

Sounds like you've had some cool trips around the globe! Your security clearance paperwork is gonna suuuuuuuuuckkkkkkk!

Speaking of Security Clearance paperwork. Remember to save your SF86 questionnaire answers somewhere safe. If you need to reapply for a clearance in the future you want to make sure your answers match up or you will get brought in for questioning. Luckily I was able to print my SF86 from work and sync everything up for my Navy app. quite easily.

I was told I had to re-submit a new SF86 eventhough im active duty and I already have a clearance so it took me forever and it caused me to be right at the cutoff for submitting my kit for this board just to find out that i didnt need it after all. So rick_s is defnitley right about hanging onto your filled out form.

Coming down to the wire guys, have to give a big thank you to everyone on this site for helping me get prepared. With the results hopefully coming out next week, Ive got a quick question. I put Intel as my number one choice because I know how hard of a selection it is. With that being said will I have to wait till intel releases their results before I can move forward with the results of this board. Also do you think thats going to negatively affect me (my hearts really set on flying but at the time I just went along with what my recruiter told me to do for the preferences).

Who told you to re-submit a new SF86? It wasn't on the AD checklist. I am just curious as I did not submit one.

There was some guys helping me out at a local recruiting depot and they wasnt familiar with active duty applicants. I didnt find the Active duty checklist unitl 3 or 4 days before kits was due. I had a ton of stuff I didnt even need since I had been going off of the civilian check list.

I can't answer your question about the board results for your different choices, but I will say if you are set on flying you should have put that as your number one. Check out my top 3 choices.

You have about 5 years to get picked up for SNA!!! Sounds like your OR smooth talked you into that one....... You could get selected for all of them though, but with SNA not being #1 it might hurt you, not sure.

I think I smooth talked myself into it, have the Navy officer first mentality with me just graduating college... Its just been in the 6 months I've been waiting from the first time I've applied the thought of getting to fly gets my blood pumping like nothing else.
