AD1,

Negative. My OR told me the deadline for the submission of packages was June 1. According to her, traditionally the board has met two weeks or so from that date. Since the board is a rolling date for DCO candidates, it's really just an educated guess as to when they will meet. Regardless, thats her story, and I'm sticking to it.

Roger. I'll see what I can find out. I'm just as curious as you. I'm still waiting on my final select letter. This whole process truly is an example of how the navy operates. Hurry up and wait!!

The board is at the end of August 2014. Packages are due sometime the first week in July. I think I have a good chance this time with being an Alternate last board. I finished my Master Degree and got interviews from 2 Captains and 1 Admiral for this next board.

I'm scheduled for DCOIC in November. What is the word on AMO school? As an AMDO DCO, do we go to the two week school or the ten week school?

Morning Roto,

I am applying for AMDO DCO. I have 12 years of active duty service and been in the reserves for a little over a year now. My eval average is about a 4.75 EP. I have 5 AMDO recommendations 1/O-4, 1/O-5, 2/O-6, and 1/O-7. I was also the Maintenance LPO and Q/A Supervisor at NAS Oceana in Air Department for the Airfield. My current job is the Maintenance & Engineering Manager for a Steel Mill in Pennsylvania.

What are your stats like if you don't mind me asking?

AD1 and future AMDO's,

The 8 week school (58 days) is called the NAMP Indoctrination Course. NAMP is the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program. This course is for designators 1520 / 1525 / 1527. The purpose is “to provide newly commissioned or designated aviation ground officers (Navy 1520/1525/1527 and Marine Corps 6002) with little (two years or less) or no aviation maintenance background who are prospective members of organizational or intermediate maintenance organizations with technical information and knowledge of the managerial responsibilities and the administrative duties required to perform at an entry level aircraft maintenance position”.

The short course is 23 days in length and it is for LDO’s and CWO’s. The purpose of the program is “to provide newly commissioned or designated aviation ground officers (Navy 63XX/73XX and Marine Corps 6004) with significant (two years or more) aviation maintenance background who are prospective members of organizational or intermediate maintenance activities with technical information and knowledge of the managerial responsibilities and the administrative duties required to direct an aircraft maintenance activity”.

If you are a DCO, you will more than likely be attending the long course. My detailer and I tried very hard to get me in the short course but the school house couldn’t over look my designator. I’m a 1525 DCO. I have 14 years of prior maintenance experience on fighters, helicopters and heavies. They told me that I had to attend the long course. I have not gone yet and I will try one more time to take the short course.

I have attached the links below the above paragraphs so you guys can read what the NETC site says about the courses.

Good luck guys!

Thank for the info Bam Bam.

@Timothy Ford

Sounds like you have some good experience. Good luck, I hope to hear that you have secured a position soon.

My Experience:

I have almost 20 years as a pilot. 13 years of that is flying commercially. I have been a Certified Flight Instructor/Instrument Instructor/Multi-Engine Aircraft Instructor for 10 years. I've flown numerous type of aircraft encompassing reciprocating engined single/multi, turboprop multi-engined, multi-engined turbojet aircraft. My employment in aviation has included aerial photo/survey, freeway traffic patrol, single-pilot Part 135 freight, corporate, charter, and the Part 121 multi-crew airline environment. I have an A.A. in Liberal Arts and a B.S. in Aeronautical Science. I also have 3 years law enforcement experience. I have 3 recommendations from retired Naval/Marine Corps Officers. I am also a member of the Knights of Columbus and I'm just now starting to get involved with the Civil Air Patrol/Air Force Auxiliary. Some day I hope to get my kids involved in aviation in addition to the military through the CAP.

Keep me posted if you hear anything else and I'll do the same.

Roto

Hey Roto,

Sounds like you have a lot of experience within the aviation community. You should go and become a fighter pilot with all that experience, LOL. The date of the board is 22 August 2014. Hopefully we will both see our names on the Select list in a few months. I was disappointed not getting Selected the first time, but it is what it is, and I feel that this coming board is my time. Take Care Bud. I will keep you posted if I hear anything about the board!!!

Sounds good! I'll do the same. I won't lie and say I wouldn't love to become a fighter/attack pilot (emphasis on attack) but I'm 33 and I have come to value just what being an Officer in the Navy means. The job becomes just that, but being able to lead others and adhere to the military concept is why I'm pursuing this opportunity. Good luck!

Thanks for the info guys! I got word today that my board was for fy-15. I can't commission any sooner than October 1st. I had no idea this was the case. Still playing the waiting game.

AD1,

First off congrats on the PRO REC for AMDO. I was selected for NFO and went through OCS almost a year ago. I ended up failing out of IFS since I could not land a plane so just last week I was redesignated as an AMDO which is awesome and feel very fortunate. I will be starting AMO school on the 8th of July but I see you have not gone to OCS yet, if you need any info which you will find a lot out here but more personal for a prior I will answer as much as I am allowed to. I will give you my experience going through there as a prior. Well once again congrats and if you need anything let me know.

When it comes to the reserves it is a bit different as you commission prior to DCO school, that means when you are in a new FY you have to wait until Oct 1st.
