Why would you believe that the guy was lying? Odd are the majority (70%+) are going to make less than 60...especially on the first go.

because look at the scores here, a good number get over 60, and also I rarely saw scores under 50, many were in the 60's, a few in the 70's, I would say there were probably equal amounts in 50's and 60's

Only you have to consider that you're probably dealing with a biased sample (i.e. those that do get high scores are more likely to flaunt them around on these forums than those that get 40s-50s). Nevertheless, here's the only somewhat "official" distribution of the scores I've seen, which clearly has a mean around 50.

actually another thing to consider that will bias what I have seen is that many years ago (15 years ago?) they found that those who were raised on the west coast or east coast had better scores than those raised in the middle of the country.

I also dealt with more technical majors, well, my NRD in generally dealt with a higher than average number of tech majors, and tech majors tend to do better on the ASTB.

thank you for your information. In which year(s) do these reflect? Are these nationwide?

oh, and mainly what I was referencing was what I had seen at my NRD, since I was essentially the only OR at the HQ I would brief nearly all applicants on their scores after they were done with the ASTB.

Nearly all our candidates just logged in and printed them from the schools website while in our office, then we stamped them, easy.
Sounds good. I have all my official transcripts and have already spoke with PSD about certifying them as true copies. Just wanted to get the actual scoop. Thanks for the feed back.

The test scores are normalized to have a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. That means that about 84% of people taking the test will score at or below 60.

Just got done taking the test. Got a 41. Not too happy about it because I called the OCS help line to see what the min. for Active and it is 45. Looks I got to hit the books and retake in 91 days

I don't quite follow. The integral is the total number of test-takers in the sample, and if you want to know the percentage of test-takers that scored >60, you'd take the integral of the distribution above 60 divided by the entire integral from 0 to infinity. This is not 84%. Maybe 15%. The test-writers probably score the test such that the distribution is Gaussian with a mean around 50. And if you say the sigma is 10, then 68.3% of the population scored between 40-60.

Ah. Youre saying 84% is the integral UP TO 60. Now we're on the same page.

Unless things recently changed the only designator that needed an OAR over 35 was AMDO at 40

How long has it been since you were a recruiter? Your information is frequently wrong. The minimum OAR for IDC designators is 45 IAW OPNAVINST 1420.1B which is dated back in 2009.

Just left under a few years ago, but actually my information is frequently confirmed, the OPNAVINST is notorious for being not up to date in regards to OCS programs (designator numbers, age limits, required OAR too high, too low) so unless the person that wrote the OPNAVINST back in 2009 knew that the OAR would go up to 45 sometime in the future it is not correct.
