Played 18 holes at AC Read GC at NAS Pensacola this Saturday (today) afternoon. Beautiful severe clear day, 70F and not one aircraft, Navy, otherwise, VT or fleet, was seen or heard between noon & 5PM. This is a first. This is depressing. FWIW.

Most likely its because most of the T-6/T-39s were out on cross countries and if there were any local flights they were flying out of Jack Edwards. When I was going through VT-10 all of the weekend flights were handled from Jack Edwards because of NPA's field hours.
It's true at Whiting and Meridian too. Fields are closed on the weekends except for a recovery window for CCX returns on Sunday night.

I know that in the past, the Navy is much less "generous" on cross countries than the AF,... but wouldn't there still be some per diem and lodging costs that the Navy would have to pay the folks that are on TDY/TAD orders? Most likely its because most of the T-6/T-39s were out on cross countries.
Is the Jack Edwards flying relatively new? I don't remember NPA's hours being cut on the weekends when I went through (2010ish).

In our case, we have terminated all TDY orders unless it is mission critical.

From what I've seen in CONUS, if you want to take a jet on the road for a weekend of training, then you usually will pay for lodging with no per diem. Your squadron just cuts you no cost orders.
