I know that AW SOP says no politics but I think that this may be of interest to you guys. Please remove this post if my soap-boxing crosses the line.
Section 2714 of H.R. 3590, which was the healthcare reform bill signed into law by President Obama, mandated the extension of health insurance benefits to unmarried dependents under the age of 26 not currently insured by their employers. Since Tricare is funded by the Department of Defense this extension of benefits does not apply to dependents of military members covered by Tricare. Although I personally do not agree with the healthcare reform law in its entirety I believe that the provisions of the law should be applied to all Americans including military dependents. Recognizing the shortcomings of the healthcare reform law Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) and Representative Martin Heinrich (D-NM) introduced legislation, S.3201 and H.R. 4923 respectively, which would extend Tricare coverage of dependents of active duty and retired military members from age 23 to age 26. Both bills seemed to be stalled in committee and I would encourage anyone in support of this legislation to write their congressmen.

This makes me happy. Why? Because there's no fucking reason that a 26 year old should be depending on his parents anymore. For fuck's sake - GROW UP AND STOP RELYING ON MOMMY AND DADDY!

I will not EVER call my congressman on this bullshit bill. In case you missed it - GROW THE FUCK UP!

m26, point taken. But I don't think anyone in this country should support very many, if any communist philosophies. If they do, they should leave this country.

Nonsense. Being able to have... non-mainstream... views is the whole point of this country.

And based solely on the parts of the speech that are available (to my basic search-fu), I don't see any support for communist philosophies in Mr. Blooms comments.

But OnTopTime, the alarming thing about this health care reform, is the new leader of medicare/medicaid, Dr. Berwick. I am appalled at how much he admires the British nationalized healthcare system, which is failing, like most of the other socialist programs in Europe.

How much does he admire it? And for what reasons?

As for failing, that depends on what metric you use. The beeb says it's tops in "efficiency," whatever that means. I don't think there is strong evidence to suggest that US health system of 2007 is drastically better or worse than European models. I think it depends on what you value in a healthcare system. Do some research and decide for yourself.

It's communist to believe political power comes from the barrel of a gun? Because I've heard that bandied about quite often and admiringly at gun shows, gun ranges, etc by gun enthusiasts.

That chart looks like the spaghetti diagram that baffled even Gen. McChrystal.
