@wink that’s not the case. I’ve worn squadron colored t-shirts my entire time in the Navy except for a year or so when everyone was mandated to wear black.

@nipunsharp wear a black t-shirt until you get to the FRS, then expect to wear the squadron colored shirt.
Not sure if it’s different at other squadrons, but here at 30 studs still wear black undershirts while the instructor staff wear the light blue squadron colored undershirts.

Whats the right undershirt with green flight suit..still on Navy blue undershirts or are NWU type 3 undershirts the correct one along with black? The reg says “black or nwu type undershirt ”

Black, and do yourself a favor and spring for Massif or merino wool (smart wool or others) as soon as you can. Fire retardant and moisture wicking, far less fatiguing in summer than having wet cotton stuck to you.

? VP, making things pointlessly harder/painful in Naval Aviation since the PBY.

Yeah, should’ve mentioned this was VAQ specific.

And the different colored t-shirt thing sounds very VP specific though the might be taking this cue from Top Gun and NSAWC, I have no idea if they still play the different colored shirt game there.

Think it has more to do with not making the students buy a bunch of shirts for a couple months then change colors when they get to their squadrons.

Pop's Leather Etsy Store

Just tossing this out there: it appears that Pop's Leather is back up and running post-pandemic pause and is selling their stuff on Etsy with all the same prices and inventory. Listing always appears to show "1 in stock" but they still seem as customizable as on the old dedicated site. Would love to know if anyone has pics or feedback on their recent makes (since the old collars looked super 70's porn star-esque).

Do y'all recommend the velcro nametape for the Leather Jacket or sewing?

Honestly my mind immediately jumped to how it's harder to steal one with the nametape sewn on, but not by much.

Get a high quality leather name tag - in black or brown, with just wings and your name (or initials and last name) and call it done. It will age nicely and your future "old guy" self will thank you.

Do y'all recommend putting a squadron patch on or just keeping the nametag as the only thing on the jacket?
A common topic that comes up every few years. I don't know if there is "one" answer here. There many like having their "first" squadron, others like leaving it blank, others like "stacking" squadron patches as you progress in your career. Still others go for a circle of Velcro. Your first "real" operational squadron in your chosen community would be my choice. Get a quality patch (preferably of a heritage variety) and good sewing.

The G-1 is the envy of our sister services, especially the AF. AF types are prohibited from wearing their A2 in actual flying operations. I wear my G1 to the office and flying regularly and I get a lot of compliments.

Do what feels right for you.

I don't think your question got answered. If you can find a reputable place to sew it (there's a bunch of suggestions in the thread depending on what fleet concentration area you're in), sewing it is probably a better option. I velcroed mine and it worked fine, but I also rarely wore the jacket, so the velcro interface didn't see a lot of real-world action.
