The Eyes have it - All things Vision-related

I was just super honest. I said that I’m trying to join the Navy and work in aviation, but the medical examiners told me I have 20/30 vision and I needed it corrected. After they did all of their tests and gave me a prescription I received all of their documentation which had all of the medical information that I nor you would understand. And I believe it was more in depth than what MEPS had done. So that’s what I sent in which cleared me.
Im surprise 20/30 wasn’t enough since its better than 20/70 corrected 20/20, i guess they didn’t have documentation stating you have 20/20 corrected. im going to bring the regulation to see if a qualify as in this picture below

Out of curiosity, did you bring the NAMI regulation form so your doc could tell you where you qualify or not

I literally answered the question in your previous post.
I went today to make an appointment, but they were booked, they are going to call me back between tomorrow and Friday. I was looking over my post corrective paperwork, and this is what I found. I believe this was my last check up before meps which was around August. I figured they used the most recent which would be meps vs this one. I'll retake it to have a newer one and resubmit it. Me recruiter's assistance gave me a pretty PR response that I didn't qualify based on the N33 and that the handlers wouldn't budge, and I politely asked to re submit a new N33 vs going of the one I recieved. unnamed.jpg
 
Hello everyone, just coming here for some advice. When going through MEPS, I failed the depth perception at the 4th circle (100 arc seconds). Before contacting my recruiter, I had a comprehensive eye exam done that rated me at 40 arc seconds using the stereo randot test (the one with the fly on it). Obviously I've submitted the paperwork to get the MEPS test overturned but I am still plagued with the fear that I will fail at OCS/NAMI simply because I failed at MEPS. Granted, I was nervous because my recruiter told me that I HAD to pass that test so that may have been a factor.

Anyways, I went ahead and bought one of those randot tests through Amazon (pictured below), the same type the OD used to test me, and when it delivered yesterday I had my girlfriend test me according to the instructions, and once again I could see all the circles down to 40 arc seconds. Do you guys think I should schedule another eye exam just to be safe or just relax and wait until OCS? I know many people complain about the MEPS test being flawed but at the same time I've read the posts from exNavyOffRec stating that there is a large volume of applicants who pass on the civilian side then fail at OCS.

I do not intend to "shop around" for a doctor that will pass me, but as of now both DP tests that I've taken outside of MEPS I've passed. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Please Help!

I’m currently at OCS, went through NCME here and I passed everything except the last chair test when reading off the letters from a distance. I do wear corrective glasses, but because I only read 5/10 letters (without glasses) the civilian optometrist told me I’m DQ’d & they’re offering me NFO.

They gave me a paper with my prescription, and all are still within limits!

After speaking to another staff member who was trying to help me: he said they’ll redesignate me to NFO. & once I graduate & get to Pensacola, I will receive another flight physical & ask for a reevaluation (due to stress, sleep deprivation, and traveling over 24+ hours just to get to Newport). He said I can request a PRK lasik eval w/an aeromedical summary. If eligible they’ll redesignate me to SNA, but this will push me back a year.

Anyone know if this is possible? Has it been done before? How likely am I able to keep my SNA slot?

I’m still within limits but I just couldn’t get all 10 letters that-day. Please any advice would be much appreciated.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an OCS candidate be afforded PRK/LASIK and then re-des back to SNA.

Odds are you are going to have to go with NFO or potentially DOR and reapply at a later time - this doesn’t include the potential of you also needing corrective eye surgery and paying out of pocket for that to meet SNA requirements.

I’m not buying the stress or fatigue thing, otherwise every SNA applicant who gets NAMI whammied would use this as reasoning.
