T-44 For The P-8?

eagleerok

One down, three to go
Out of curiosity, with the new P-8 supposed to be operational in 2013, are they going to continue to use the T-44 in the pipeline or do they have other plans for training them?

Yeah I heard tailhook will now include P-8 guys......

If the T-44 can train 707 pilots it can train 737 pilots.

The P-8 has been coming for a long time now... and the 44C mod is not cheap. It's highly likely that the TC-12 and the T-44 will be around for a long while. Then again I have been surprised before at how shortsighted the Navy can be.

The E-6B kids go to through Advanced at Corpus just like the rest of us. I don't see why it would change for the P-8. (Cross my fingers?) I hear all is not well with the T-44C program, but then again that could just be our TC-12 sim instructors talking trash. I have heard they are keeping the C-12 around longer, though.

Its a good plane except there is not enough of them and they have 1 sim that is a P.O.S. When I was there on any given day there would maybe be 4 Charlies up and 1 was bound to go down throughout the day.

Yea man, they even give them an "AR" flight.

There are E-6 selectees currently training in VT-31.

Jolly - I was one of the first to go through T-1's for E-6's in 1995. Ask Roger Camp whether they prefer the T-1 or the T-44C trained guys. Back in the day, they liked the Navy trained guys better. I am curious if they feel the same now.

The TC-12 has been removed from the NAVAIR divestiture list which means NAVAIR/CNATRA can feed money into the program.

This is due partially to the fact that the USAF is leaving. The incoming USAF CO for VT-35 (Nov) is the last one and all USAF IPs and SMAs will be gone by the end of his tour. His words - "I am the last one to leave."

Wow. Between that and leaving Wing 6, is the AF pulling out of joint flight training altogether?

The T-44 modernization program is happening.

With the money that was slated for the TH-57D.

Which is now "some years off."
