The atmosphere here is extremely laid back. The bonds that you make here are tight and there is alot of ribbing and bs'ing going on. Every once in a while you get a guy here who thinks he is king crapola. Then he gets razzed by everyone untill he chills. I have not seen the stuck up arrogant type here that I heard about in primary. On wed and friday afternoons, I debrief with the IP's in the WAR ROOM. A great little get away with some brew and great entertainment. This is just a great place and you are always wanting to get back in the jet to fly some more.

Replacement won't be fielded till 2010-12 timeframe. Decision on whether Lockheed or Boeing gets the contract is at the end of this month.

I AM curious to see how the attitude changes on 29 MAY if for example the 737 is selected as the replacement.

29 May eh? Man I'm out of the loop for a month and look what I miss.

Uh...er...I think I've said enough about P-3s...

Look, whatever you end up in, your happiness will depend on your attitude. There are bitter people in EVERY community. Those are the ones who stand out in your mind. How many great landings do you remember? OK, now how many sh!tty ones stand out?

As long as you get winged and stay positive, you will have a good time. The best thing about Naval Aviation is NOT the flying (yeah, re-read it, I said it.) It's the friends you make, the people you get the privilege to work with. Some communities offer more opportunities than others in this regard, or may offer a different means to experience it. Regardless, no matter what happens, your happiness is ultimately up to YOU.

Well guys, I am in Primary now, and the pilots here seem to be great. I would not talk bad about them, because they were the ones who gave you great scores and you were able to go jets. I know that you must have studied your butt off to get high NSS, but the ultimate decision was up to them to give you your 4's and 5's... (or aboves), so give them some respect.

Look man, the vast majority of the pilots I flew with in primary were not the ones I mentioned - I was fortunate and largely avoided that type. That doesn't mean I didn't see them. I have nothing but respect for those who take their job seriously and show an interest in building you into a naval aviator. For those who talk down to students, dissuade them from their desired communities, or trash talk other communities (in primary), I'll kindly say 'yes sir' and be on my way -- respect is a two way street my friend. Coincidentally, the ones who gave 4s and 5s were the same ones who showed an interest in teaching, and thus, were the ones I admired and looked to for help. Funny how that works out, eh?

I dont think I was ever GIVEN a 4 or 5. I think that I earned it through my flying abilities or my knowledge of information that I was being quizzed on.

The 5 Most Common Lies Told By Naval Aviators:
5) While I was in high school, I was a football star/dated the homecoming queen and cheerleading captain at the same time/was the most popular guy in school.
4) My people love me and I am the most popular officer in the squadron.
3) I was smart enough to get into Annapolis, but I wanted to party, sleep in, and screw chicks like a madman and therefore I went to Idiot State University (aka Florida State).
2) What did I do this weekend? Drinking. Sex. Watched football. (Reality - frozen pizza and Diet Coke followed by Saturday Night Live.)
1) I had jet grades but chose P-3's/helos because that is what I wanted.

OK, all kidding aside, why do some people feel like they need to qualify their platform selection with the statement, "I had jet grades but I didn't want them" or some other qualifier akin to that? Even if it is true (most of the time I am skeptical), shouldn't you be proud of where you are at and all the trials and tribulations you had to overcome to get there and would have no need to qualify your choice? Do you think Jennifer Anniston would be flattered to hear Brad Pitt say to her, "Jennifer, with my looks and charm, I could be banging anybody on the planet, but I chose you instead"?

Actually my grades were so bad I thought I was going to get blimps or UAV's - maybe drone test pilot.... I fly both on a daily basis: the steam gauge TH-57 at South Field screaming around at 200 feet and below and then climbing into a state of the art airliner and blasting up at 5000 FPM to FL 310. I can tell you without hesitation or reservation that helos are more fun. At any rate, good luck with whatever you choose!

A truer statement has never been made on the Simpsons:
Simon Cowell (to the Simpsons): Congratulations. Your baby is brilliant! In fact, she's smart enough to teach at Florida State!

HAHAHAHA!!!! Some of the guys I got the most 4 and 5's from were the ones I talked the most trash about. You don't kiss a$$ to get good grades, you earn them like EOD said.

Semper Fudge

As far as why some people put out, "I had jet grades but chose helos" is becuase most idiots automatically assume that if you selected helos, you must have been a horrible pilot. There were quite a few of us that did great in primary, but went in knowing that we wanted Helos. ( no I did not get sick or not like G's)

Me personally, I spent my midi cruises with a hornet sqd and a 46sqd. After those 2 cruises, there was no question in my mind, which community I wanted. In my opinion I think the Helo community is the last great aviation community (no UAVs or any sh%$ like that coming to replace me in the near future j/k LOL and flying low and landing vertically.... so on and so on).

As mentioned previously, there are the SNAs that go into Primary (like me) that did not want jets, and wanted TACAMO, Helos, or P3s, and busted ass to get as high of grades as possible to get what they wanted, and to do good in the syllabus. Amusing when you are in Intermediate and keep turning down the 2nd, 3rd, 4th chance to "correct your mistake, and go jets...", just not what I or others wanted. Most ppl assume (as mentioned above) that you had barely above a 35 NSS.... While I was selecting, P3 slots were few and far between, and they were the #1 picks, so you knew going in, that you had to bust ass to get that slot and beat your buddy.

And if you don't know that I AM proud of my choice, then you haven't been on this website too long.

Enough said, in Advanced they don't give a crap about your NSS, in the Fleet they sure as **** don't give a crap about your NSS, you are the FNG, so get hot on the PQS, biatch!!
