LOL. You mean the "pointy end" No, that's the front end of the boat.

Couldn't resist!

It's not? You mean I've been saying it wrong all these years? ;)

Isn't the only current carrier based aircraft that doesn't house a radar in the nose the Hawkeye?

What about the -60s, or the T-45s? I think the point I'm trying to make is that it depends on the context. If I'm referring to the radome as a specific, discrete part of the aircraft, then I would use the term radome: "Hey dude, there's a serious dent in the radome on that jet." On the other hand, if I'm referring to the aircraft in general, it is more appropriate to refer to it as the nose: "Hey dude, we are in a serious nose-low attitude right now," or: "Dude, he's bringing the nose around for a shot." You can even refer to it as the nose when the radar is implicitly involved: "Magic, Dude03 is turning nose hot, picture."

Hope that clears things up. ;)

Clarification on the AW/SW issue

If you are Aviation rate and you are dual warfare qualified on an Aircraft carrier, then you wear your Air Warfare pin on top. The surface rates wear their ESWS on top. A carrier is considered an Aviation command, since the entire mission is to get the planes close the action so they kick someone's ass.

"If you want to piss off a country, send the Army and the Air Force, If you want to kick their ass, send the Navy and the Marines!"
