Putting down a wild pig/boar

Two step process:

1. Use all of the good advice on this thread to convince the wife that you need to buy both a 12ga. and Colt .45

2. After the purchase of the new weapons, kill the first pig with the shotgun and then bait more to come to your back yard.

You gotta try out all the new guns, right?

I wish someone could add a .wav file of dueling banjo's when people enter this thread...it would seem fitting.

Considering where you go to school, you probably have that song playing in your head all the time.

Naaaaaaaaa .... rifled cartridges are not the answer in the described "back yard" scenario ... think over-penetration and blowing away little Johnny-I-never-did-like-that-kid-anyway next door ...

Not always. This is a 120 grain Barnes TSX out of my 7mm-08 a couple years ago. MV of 2780 fps and about a 60 yard shot so still stepping right along. Through one shoulder, heart and other shoulder and was under the skin on the far side. Retained 119.9 grains of the original 120. Love those bullets!

Just hire these guys.
Which guys? I see three hogs in the picture:D.....If you have a semi-auto 22, I think you can take him out. Make the first shot a head-shot and remember to double-tap him with each burst. I want to see pictures.

We have a 150-175 pound pig terrorizing our backyard. Poisoning and trapping are out of the question as we have a dog and there are deer (which aren't causing too much damage). The county will charge us an arm and a leg and take forever to remove.

I have a .22 rifle with hollow points and a .410 shotgun. Will either of these lay him down or do I need something bigger? If so, what's the smallest and cheapest I would need? Sorry, my hunting days are from long ago.

I can only get within about 50yds or so. I sprayed him once with the .410 and he squealed and ran. Probably like 5 bee stings to him. The shot was bird shot (all I had at the time).

Thanks for any help. Free pork to anyone who helps!

You need a BFG9000.

Yeah, yeah, yeah ... no argument from me. But THIS is what the guy said: ".... what's the ... cheapest I would need? Sorry, my hunting days are from long ago ..." :)

I say -- gun that egg-suckin' hog down w/ a 12-guage. Mebbe not "small", but certainly the most effective, the "cheapest" and the relative "safest" when used in the context given from the original post ....

Slugs preferred; 00 if you must ...

Yeah, I agree, but I think I would rather eat a balut than clean and dress another one. I've cleaned and field dressed everything from squirrel to deer and the wild pig (feral) was by far the nastiest, stinkiest, most revolting thing I've done. I'll hire it done if I ever take another one.

BTW, the 7-08 is my favorite cartridge. :)

Must agree! Next to a pellet-less dove, I've not eaten any meat that tasted better than a wild hog.
