WOW! that's crazy. He seemed to be somewhat on glideslope up until the very end and he just DROPPED! It seems as if he cut power and just dropped but I know you go full power for landings. What did they find happened?

On night approaches, even in close, the visual cues (except the meatball) all tell you that you are really high. That's why there are so many "come down to land (CDTL)" and NEPIC or SAR comments from the LSO's. All you non-carrier types can try and figure out the last two. Answers later in the thread.

So what happens to guys that perform marginally or have a marginal trend at the boat? FNAEB'd?

It happens from time to time. Guys who can't seem to "get" the boat or are unsafe will get the propper attention. I've seen fleet guys have to go back through a RAG CQ phase and others who had to choose another platform or designator. One Marine Prowler pilot who DQ'd twice during RAG CQ became an ECMO.
