Not a small and inconsequential difference by any means. Besides, it's a "chicken or the egg" issue WRT the war game and Iranian tactics.

Actually ... timeless "tactics" for small boats.

6 Russian KOMARS did a similar thing to us -- the Gator task force (task group?) @ the mouth of the Dardanelles in the summer of '68 during the Czech dust up. Except after they started cutting through the formation, the Commodore pulled the plug, turned us all out and sent us to GQ, turned the searchlights/guns on them (it was night), and fired star shells for illumination while broadcasting in the blind on the international guard frequencies.

The Russians?? They left the area ...

We probably took a harder line in that one little spot in the world than the entire U.S. government did to the Czech invasion. Navy hard ball tactics???
