New Intel O-1: Carrier "ships company" VS. "squadron"

Regarding "reinvention," all I was really saying is that you may or may not find yourself professionally empowered by the work you do in the intelligence world. Some of the work is awesome, but not all is. I'm not dissing anyone for enjoying their work.

Regarding becoming a SWO, whoever heard of anyone lat transfering from intel to SWO? I love sleep way too much. Thanks anyway. Maybe if they increased SWO manning by about 100% so that there were actually enough SWO's to do all the work... I can't say that I've seen too many unjaded SWO's, poor fellas, God bless you...

I see. So you want the shiny gold pin on your chest without all that comes with it?

What's an SWO?

Sorry, I hate to show my ignorance, but what is an SWO?
From an acronym web site, SWO could stand for one of the following:
SWO Security Watch Officer
SWO Senior Warrant Officer
SWO Senior Watch Officer
SWO
Senior/Staff Watch Officer
SWO Service Work Order
SWO
Socialist Workers Organisation (New Zealand)
SWO Sorry, We're Open (webcomic)
SWO Southwest Ohio
SWO
Special Weapons Officer
SWO Squadron/Station Warrant Officer
SWO Staff Weather Office(r)
SWO Staff Welfare Officer (UK)
SWO
Stop Work Order
SWO
Strategic Workforce Optimization
SWO Supercritical Water Oxidation
SWO Surface Warfare Officer
SWO Swordfish (FAO fish species code)
Obviously, there are some that don't match, but I am just trying to understand the myriad of acronyms.

I am looking at intel as a possible career. I get the impression there are many different areas where Intel officers serve. Where else can they serve other than as an AI?

Well I have to say that this is probably one of the most informative forums I've read in awhile. It really makes me look at Intel in a different light. Not necessarily a bad light, but it just serves as a further reminder that the grass is always greener and all the communities have their strengths and weaknesses. I just never knew of all these different factors to consider.

:). No, just the experience standing more of the watches, running divisions, etc. I enjoyed standing watch underway. I liked having a demanding schedule on the ship.

Seeing how jaded most of the SWO's I've ever met are, but realizing that I've never been underway on a small boy, and giving proper respect to your criticism as a SWO, it just seems to me that it would only help the Navy to increase SWO manning on ships.

Also, I think experience on the ops side of the house helps my intel work.

Qualifying as SWO does nothing to increase SWO manning. And at this point, SWO manning is doing just fine. But if you like the type of work SWO's do and you really want that pin, then by all means put in an application for lateral transfer. Any experience in any department will help your intel work.

What is Intel for a Navy Officer Like?

I was wondering if someone could walk me through a day in the life of a navy Intelligence officer (I usually ask the navy website one-on-one chat, but that is down on the weekends).

Also, what are my odds of successfully getting into the OCS with my Stats?
ASTB 41 3/3/3
GPA: 3.18 UNCCharlotte double major: Anthropology and Philosophy
-Persian heritage (know how to speak and understand some Farsi, otherwise illiterate)
-Japanese club for about a semester

P.S I plan on retaking the ASTB

Edit...
Don't just take the ASTB again 31 days after your first test: take it when you are prepared and ready to do well. Have you talked with an officer recruiter (not online one-onone chat; I mean with one in your area)?
