My Natops is smaller than your Natops...

On this note, I showed the E-2 NATOPS to a couple Hornet buds, and their eyes about bugged out of their heads.

Of course it doesn't help that 1/2 of it is written 2 or 3 times with marginal changes to go between the E-2C+, E-2C NU, and HE2K variants. Sad part is it is still smaller than a SH-60B NATOPS.
 
Yeah, but do you get issued Change 1 with your brand new, fresh off the presses, newly re-written NATOPS? I did. Well, not quite. But change 1 is on its way...

Admin-schmadmin...I'm also the new D/TO as of this past Monday to eventually be the TO...Can't speak to the experience that is a pilot CSI event (and you know who I mean), but there's a pilot syllabus review in work as well. Details matter, but there's too much trivia/stump-the-chump, not enough technique and proficiency IMO.

FWIW, first E-2 back seat hop for a non mole (including other platforms) tends to be a brain melter for them...it's entertaining for us. :D

As for the NATOPS manual itself, there's still the NATIP and software manuals for each variant to crush pygmies with...
 
Bubba, I had the distinct pleasure of being a JMPS O for a couple of years. After about 6 months, I learned how not to piss it off. The civvie jmps bubbas at the schoolhouse were awesome too. Certainly, not a collateral I'd ever want again. Better than Squadron Meat Gazer O I guess though.
 
Thanks...I had just learned how to use the Sierra PFPS with the PCMCIA cards when I left...of course they changed it already.

My community used to be real big on NATOPS knowledge, but since we've been increasing the breadth and scope of our Weapons and Tactics program, there's been a bit of a debate as to how much NATOPS knowledge is required for safe flight and how much is just there for "nice to know". Does every pilot require area fam/ep revs as often as possible to maintain pilot proficiency at EPs and basic NATOPS maneuvers, or do tactical flights provide you with the skills you need for a NATOPS check? Obviously, money is the bottom line despite everyone's desire to fly nothing but DDAs.

Interersting, because when I transitioned from the VP community to the HS world I expected the same thing.

In VP (speaking for the Es) memorizing trivial BS that have nothing to do with the mission or saving your ass on top of and including knowing things that are important seemed to prevail.

In HS it was not. Flying, tactics, and knowing enough to come back to do it another day safely.
 
We didn't even get a NATOPS manual here. They cost money so we just got a cd.

Any gouge out there on how to effectively use jumps?

Well when the last one goes to the boneyard, everyone can finally stop debating whether to take off flaps 30 or flaps 20, and get on to the REALLY important question of how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. :icon_tong

There's really no debate. Flaps 20 takeoffs are mostly stupid...mostly.
