This is the Navy, when has 'sense' ever entered into the equation???

Well, yeah. Obviously.

No, what I mean is, I've never heard any rationalization for this rule. Not even a stupid rationalization, or the standard Navy "fix for a problem that doesn't exist".

Why does this rule exist? What is its purpose? What is it trying to fix, avoid or acheive?

What is this 'categories' bullshit, anyhow? Why is my wearing my SWO pin below my FO wings perfectly okay, but a FO-pilot retread can't wear his FO wings anymore (which were sure as hell harder-earned than my SWO pin)? Just because of where they fall in some entriely artificially-created 'categories'?

While we're at it...MILPERSMAN says you rate wearing wings unless and until specifically stripped of them by Board action. Far as I'm concerned, that outranks the goddamned Uniform Regs. So there. Fester says it's kosher. :icon_tong

You can wear FO wings under the NA wings. You couldn't before, but you can now.

Hey, I'm late to the game. Like Hozer, I have PROUDLY worn my AIRCREW wings under my NFO wings since 1997. My EAWS wings are in my uniform box in my closet. Since the new rules have gone into effect, I just might have to break them out and wear them.

Gold wings with gold NAC wings looks a little goofy, but that's just me.

Yep, I'll consider the source and leave it at that.

Real answer: Uniform regs say the warfare pin you earned first takes precedence.

Depends. If you earned a SWO pin first then transitioned to Aviation, then you'd wear your Aviation pin on top with SWO pin on the bottom.

I think Rob is too busy these days Opso-ing with only half the flight hours he needs...might have to go check in on him...:icon_tong

I'm swamped....but I'm surviving. You forgot the beer.

Hrm. Wear a ball cap with a flight suit? Maybe. Wear the service khaki garrison cap? Heck, people have been gaffing that (former) rule off for as long as I've been in. I really don't understand the coverall retention. Wasn't the point of the NWU to get RID of all the different working uniforms available? Now we have, let's see . . . AWGs, Wash Khakis/Utilities, coveralls, NWU Type I, II, and III, Desert CUUs, MARPAT when with the Marines, and ACUs when with the Army. And apparently only two of those selections go away in December.

If we can keep poopy suits, we can damn well keep AWGs.

Ball caps w/ flight suits is standard aboard ship.

I'd wear a ballcap with bag every now and again. Keeps the sun off better than the pisscutter, which is a useless pin-carrying device.

As for the SWOveralls, etc, I think it's the difference between "authorized" and "required". Coveralls are good for the guys on the boat getting tore-up filthy every day (engineers, 1st Div, etc), so they can still wear them if they want. It's still reducing what's actually required to be in the seabag.

Ball cap with flightsuit is authorized for Os. Some communities don't seem to like it though. Their loss.

Pretty much every AW I run into in a squadron wearing a bag wears the command ballcap with it.
