20/20 hindsight - the HH-47 variant that was proposed seems like the range and payload issues with the W would have been addressed.

I’m not sure the AF could handle the idea of two rotors. Just one seems to concern them. Of course there was the HH-43 Huskie, but those rotors were next to each other.
