The deck of the frigate wasn't big enough for a Sea King to land so that wasn't an option.
 
I'm assuming he's talking about an old Knox-class, which I think had a flight deck (H-2?) but was pretty small.
 
Hell, If I just requested a ship to HIFR me, than I'm doing the Immediate Landing/Ditching checklist right after the HIFR checklist, telling the ship to get the RHIB in the water because I'll be ditching to the port side of the ship if/when this thing doesn't work...

Unless there's an indonesian oil rig near by...
