Anyone else get the talking to from the CO about facebook (profiles)? Just heard the speech from our Capt. and it was kind of humorous to think about some of the stuff I've seen on mid's profiles. Apparently there was an "I Hate NROTC" group or something that a bunch of people back east got caught belonging to. Any truth to this?

We heard about this the first week back. It was brought up at the PNS conference.

I was told that the people who got in trouble did one of three things:
1. Posted pics of them drinking (all were underage)
2. Posted anti-Bush statements
3. Posted that they were "bisexual"

Don't do that and you don't have a problem.

Anyone who thinks what you write on the internet is secret, and can't bite you in the ass, is sorely mistaken. If you wouldn't say it out loud, never put it online.

Some people don't realize that the internet is public domain for the most part and everything and anything you post can and will be found.

Yeah... we had the same issues w/ facebook at USNA. "I hate [insert name of officer here]" groups and such.

Facebook is the sad pitiful domain of internet stalkers and people who felt so left out of the social scene in highschool that they need E-friends to boost their ego.

I'm not adding you until you add me on myspace It's very scary the amount of info that they are putting online, but I have found a few old friends are on myspace...

yea, we got the talk.. ours was more focused on people with underage drinking but all issues were covered... big brother is watching! jk.. I figure if you put the information out there for the public to see you should get what you have coming to you.

myspace, that is even more open than facebook, that is definite stalker region, i had an account on there and took it off 2 days later.

Facebook, we already encountered a problem similar to above incidents posted above before i got back from sea, they had it blocked from our internet, and only reopened it after the admin instituted a new policy on usage of facebook.

Simple, dont be stupid and dont put damaging photos up there, and restrict your profile to only your friends, i have it like that and i keep it that way, no sense in destroying a career.

I don't think that I'll ruin my career...but I would definitly take it down when I deploy/fly near combat zones...you don't want your family info on there if you are taken as POW...ahhh SERE in me.

Either way...act like an officer (not like this guy, **WARNING POSSIBLE THREAD JACK) and don't advertise it if you don't act like that. That's the simple way NOT to get in trouble...

Yeah myspace, I actually managed to find my best friend from Kindergarden (I moved to Italy in 1st grade) and put our parents back in contact with eachother. It is very disturbing though to see the number of 14 year old angsty bisexual girls looking for a daddy figure on that site. Ive already come to the conclusion that I can never have a daughter.

Yeah, I found that pretty disturbing too. There are also a lot of pornstars.
