Trump doesn't face any punishment other than removal from office.
And barring from future office. That’s why this is important.

“...judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”

purely political.
The impeachment vote was the most bipartisan ever.

I predict the vote to convict will get a lot of R Senators. Probably not enough to convict, but way more than 1. We'll be listening to witnesses give testimony like this, which happened while POTUS cheered them on for an hour and a half.

“We weren’t battling 50 or 60 rioters in this tunnel,” he said in the first public account from D.C. police officers who fought to protect the Capitol during last week’s siege. “We were battling 15,000 people. It looked like a medieval battle scene.”

Someone in the crowd grabbed Fanone’s helmet, pulled him to the ground and dragged him on his stomach down a set of steps. At around the same time, police said, the crowd pulled a second officer down the stairs. Police said that chaotic and violent scene was captured in a video that would later spread widely on the Internet.

Rioters swarmed, battering the officers with metal pipes peeled from scaffolding and a pole with an American flag attached, police said. Both were struck with stun guns. Fanone suffered a mild heart attack and drifted in and out of consciousness.

All the while, the mob was chanting “U.S.A.” over and over and over again.

“We got one! We got one!” Fanone said he heard rioters shout. “Kill him with his own gun!”

“We were battling 15,000 people. It looked like a medieval battle scene.”
When you live near DC you get a pretty good "eye" for estimating crowd size at a protest. I highly doubt there were 15,000 people there total (maybe, maybe 10,000 but I'd say even lower than that) and we know that no where close to that number went inside the building. Keep in mind that the press will cover sensational stuff like this for the news cycle, but the proceedings are more "lawyer like" and the media will skip the dull parts like actual facts. Such is the nature of news.

Now, if I were to roll out my crystal ball and attempt a prediction, I'd say that five republican senators will roll with "guilty" and the rest will have lawyerly excuses using elements of law to justify their votes. I am almost certain the future will prove me wrong (I also predict the Browns and Buccaneers in the SB!).

The Trump stuff isn't really the good stuff. The slow-burn excitement will come with filling the power vacuum on both sides of party game. It is easy (and accurate) to say that Trump holds remarkable sway over the rank-and-file voters and that Obama holds the same over his party. Both, however, are never getting back in the POTUS chair. I mentioned earlier that I don't think the two party system will last much longer in the US. It is a mistake to assume that the republicans are in more disarray than the democrats...they are simply stuck behind a bad news cycle. Look at it this way...currently both parties are being "directed" (lead is too powerful a word) by four people (Pelosi, McCarthy, Schumer and McConnell) that share a combined age of nearly 71 years (that "kid" McCarthy at 55 is keeping it "low"). The average age of the democratic caucus is 72 years while the average age of the republican caucus is 48! Biden? His age alone ensures he is a one term guy.

Change is coming sooner rather than later and the process, while slow, will be fascinating.

I was going to comment on this earlier.

The voting system we have in the US (First To the Post) pretty much guarantees a two party system. Third parties are always the spoilers, although they influence the other parties.

It also guarantees that voting between the two will almost always be close, as each jockeys for the middle voters while retaining their left/right. I will agree that the structure of the parties is going to evolve a lot.

That’s all good but there needs to be more than hearsay that Trump caused this. Especially since his speech was a half hour after the the Capitol invasion began. Just because he called for protests doesn’t mean he called for the riot. That is what an investigation needs to prove or disapprove. The lefty news media and a bunch of politicians saying so doesn’t mean it’s true.

Do a proper investigation and if it concludes he incited the riot then file criminal charges against him. Do it the right way, not Nancy’s way.

As far as bipartisan, there are GOP politicians that never liked Trump pandering to the media too. They know Trump can’t really hurt them anymore and are player to what they feel their voters will like in the years. But 10 out of 211 is not really that bipartisan.

Baring him from holding office again in the future is nothing more than a political play. If the investigation shows he incited the riot and he a guilty in a criminal court, he won’t get elected again. Just more bullshit to fulfill Nancy’s fantasy and prolong her orgasm.

You're making up requirements that don't exist and will only end up making you upset. I understand what you're getting at and why but that's just not the way the process works and such is life. To think that ANY impeachment is anything other a political action is to kid yourself. If the requirement was to have a criminal action then there'd need to be a criminal investigation and the president by the nature of the position is largely immune to that sort of thing. Which if you follow that to it's conclusion means that you couldn't have an impeachment. Which may be what you want in this case but I doubt is within the intent of the constitution or with what America wants as the a future DEM could also be immune. Our president isn't a king.

If your dog attacks someone after you send him over to sniff him, and you stand there and watch for an hour and a half, do you bear any blame?
The dog isn't yours, it just shows up one day at the dog park and acts like you're its owner and all the other dog owners agree that it's yours, and you tell the dog to be strong and fight for the right to not be picked on at the park. The dog gets bold and attacks thinking it is already being picked on... Do you bear any blame?

Dude, the MAGAers showed up to Trump's rally. They didn't show up uninvited and knock on the White House door.

I get what you are saying about the two party system, but I imagine that it will only concern the POTUS. Yes, today, most poorly educated youths (meaning most college graduates) fail to grasp that the weakest pillar of power is the POTUS. The House has already divided into four parties being Socialist/Greens, Moderate Democrats, Moderate Republicans, and TEA Party types. They all try to hide under a single party umbrella, but when real policy work is being done few stick with the single party vote. while the nation is, by far, slightly right of center, I am not convinced that the edges are going to hold and will look for new political outlets.

“Big protest in D.C. on January 6th...Be there, will be wild!”

Also Trump came out and gave a speech. Pretty sure that makes it a Trump rally.
I disagree.
