Should have thumped it. Max-G pull right above it, let the wingtip vortices drop down on it.


Those balloons don't have that much pressure differential in them, just enough to keep the things round. So when you ventilate it, there's just not that much exchange going on with the outside.

I mean for real, Is the technology advanced enough to be an option in this case? We are gonna tie up a lot of assets chasing these airbags around.
Does the technology exist? Yes. Is it a fielded operational capability, no. IIRC, the big 747 mounted BMD laser thing went away about 10 years ago... not that that was an operational capability, but likely could have done the trick with the right cueing.
