Off topic: Is the JOPA concept Navy-wide, or specific to the aviation community?

It exists Navy-Wide, but is far more prevalent in Aviation.. Surface you have LTs as Department Heads, etc. Where as in Aviation, in the 'real world' if you are a LT or below, odds are you are a first tour, or SuperJO guy.

I saw a SWO JOPA on my HSL tour, but it was more like ENS and "Junior JGs" (aka first tour guys) vs the second tour LTs/JGs and higher.

I never really understood the hating on the Academy thing. I would actually prefer to surround myself with them for studying because 9 times out of 10, they're smarter than me.

Damn dude, give yourself a little credit. You still went to college didn't you? Just because they went to the Academy doesnt make them smarter. Everyone chose their own path for their own reasons. Don't just choose to get on your knees because they're academy. They put their pants on the same way you do....by jumping into them from the bed. Right?

Anyways, 95% of my academy friends aren't cocky. I give them shit just like they give me shit for OCS stuff. It's a good natured back and forth. Yes you will meet those few outliers, but EVERY commissioning source has them, not just the academy.

I wouldn't go that far.

For at least the first chunk of the Program, effective group study is the key to success. But there's a lot of kids for whom group study is an entirely foreign concept. I had one cone tell me he didn't, because he "usually felt held back by other students". He told me this at a PRB after failing two API exams, so you can imagine how that went over.

The Academy kids are generally more willing to go for group study because the Boat School encourages it. It's not anything new to them. And usually you're in API and the VTs with guys who were friends or at least classmates at school, too. Believe me, I saw a parade of fucktards with USNA brass knuckles, too. Not smarter, just programmed to do the correct thing.

I am in no way defending the Academy, but getting into UF and getting into the Academy are completely different, grade wise, leadership wise, etc. Both are good schools and I definitely wouldn't trade being a Gator for anything.
