Astronaut Possibilities?

Do you think NASA would care though, because I want to be an astronaut some day. Hopefully they wouldn't care where I get my first bachelor's, even if I do leave Texas A&M, I plan on getting an advanced degree from a big school and hopefully a degree from NPS.
They're going to care more about your graduate work. I know this has been brought up, but don't focus too much on the long shot in the future to the exclusion of the present. It's good to have goals, but there are a million things that have to happen for you to even get a shot at TPS, much less astronaut. I'm not trying to discourage, just making sure you focus on what matters at the moment. You'll have to kick ass at flight school, the RAG and especially in your first fleet squadron before getting a recommendation for TPS or NPS - just keep that in mind.

Brett, thanks for pointing all that stuff out and thanks for the advice. I'm just trying to make sure that I don't screw myself at this early stage IF I do make it down that long long road. By the way, what's RAG?

Replacement (?) Air Group... Now called FRS (Fleet Readiness Squadron).. Its where you go to learn your specific aircraft before you get to an operational squadron.

It's STILL called the RAG by Naval Aviators ... with the exception of the company men --- suggestion: if you have any self-respect .... don't be one.

Some things never change ..... :)

Gotta throw in Rick Husband there, he went to my high school and graduated from Texas Tech University

I'm with you on that one. Col. Husband was an impressive guy....royalty among Tech grads.

The level of hate on this website is truly magnificent .... I am "gone" for a few days and look what I return to: 900+/- unread posts (who cares?) and a series of vicious attacks on a poor old man by the cocky, young usurpers to the throne ... (I don't mean THAT kind of throne .... )

Well guys, I just wanted to say thanks for all of the help yall have given me over the past few months. Thanks for putting up with all my dumb questions, I feel like I am more informed and prepared for life in the Navy than anyone from all of your help. I am currently studying up for the ASTB and will be taking it sometime next month so wish me luck. I'll post my scores when I get them, hope they are good.

S93-26392 --- Robert D. Cabana, STS-88 mission commander

Bob was a Marine who made good in the program. A former Aviator STUD of mine in Texas, he came out of an A-6 Bombardier (B/N) background. Nice guy, disciplined STUD, and good --- but not great --- Aviator. Always steady in everything I observed. A good man.

Sunny Williams - Helo pilot , 46 Driver. She went on to TPS (rotary wing) and was later selected by NASA for the Astronaut program. She was at HC-8. Her husband Mike served with me in HC-6 at the same time. She is slated for a crew member slot on International Space Station.

So even for us humble helo folk, if it's a goal you want, the opportunity is out there.

Does anyone know if a pilot-astronaut has ever been selected without some kind of engineering degree?
