Exactly ... trench warfare. Winchester M-1897 w/ a M-1917 Bayonet -- allows one to "reach out and touch" someone ... :)

Is that the same bayonet as was issued with the M1903 Springfield? It looks similar and has similar dimensions.

EDIT: Nevermind, looked it up. It was designed for the M1917 Enfield and wouldn't fit on the M1903. Also ran across this M1917, one of which I stand to inherit once I turn 21:

Dunno ... that's just a generic pix I found quickly ... looks like it might be a new production repro 'cause of the "unissued" condition of the stock ... not to worry, however ... I've got a good "stock" of the "real deal" ... :D

A better investment than real estate or diamonds. :icon_wink

Hell, I thought it was yours. You have now been downgraded to mere mortal status. :p

Any update on your white feather A-4's?
Long story short: I haven't sent the scope/rifle off yet ... I have two pre-64 WIN M70's in .30-06 for the project, and @ 8 Unertil's of various sizes and powers -- two USMC marked ... but the one I chose and sent to Parson's Scope Service (great guys, BTW) took 6 months to get back. Mr. Parsons had some medical problems and #1 son took over ALL the work -- which pushed everything back several months.

Anyway ... I've got the scope back now, picked the rifle, and am getting ready to do the deed ... :)

Good thing I'm retired and "time's in a bottle" now, like the song sez ... :D

Yep, finding a good smith these days is tougher and tougher. You find one hold onto them. Just had one bed a McMillian .257 for me.

Wow...I'll bite...where do you work?

History nerd central - Boston National Historical Park. :D For another month or so, anyway, until OCS. It's not as cool as it could be - we can't actually shot the guns, since we're on top of a hill in a city - no backstop. Still, big noise and flash is always fun.

I'll bring my camera in - we only do 'em Friday-Sunday and special occasions. I'll see if I can get any before then, though.

That's a good one -- a Colt 1917. Now marry it up w/ a S&W M1917 and you've got a pair of great ol' historic military revolvers. :)

It needs some work though. A good thorough cleaning and a close inspection and it should be good to go. I have no idea where I'm going to find half-moon clips though.
