Ammo On-Line Links

For several years now I've purchased the majority of my pistol and rifle ammo online. Especially bulk ammo and hard to find calibers and loadings.

Nothing like having a couple thousand rounds of 7.62 delivered right to your door by UPS. Keeps Buster Brown in shape and saves my back.

Below, in no particular order, I've posted a few links to websites that I've had good luck with over the years.

The first link is to what I think is the best guide to self defense ammo I've ever seen on the web. It's hosted by AR15.com but don't let that throw you off. It covers rifle and pistol calibers and is full of good info.

Please feel free to add your favorite internet ammo sites as well.

Also hard to find .45 Auto ammo. I spent about $30 for a box of 100 rounds from Wal Mart.

Although I will never use it in my AR (gas tube), I shoot a lot of Wolf through my Glocks. Yes, it's very messy, but I've never had a malfunction with it. It's good practice/stockpiling ammo and it's CHEAP. The plastic guns seem to love it.

That's good to know. I was wondering how Wolf shot in a Glock. I'm going to shoot more 3 Gun this year and I hate like hell to leave all that brass on the ground.

Been avoiding the commie ammo because of corrosion. But with availabilty getting tighter, might have to give some a try. At least I can still find pleanty of CLP.

Wolf is Russian but it is non-corrosive. It's just that they use steel casings, so they lacquer the steel to keep it from rusting. And their powder sucks. The combination of the nasty crap coming back down the gas tube and the lacquer melting off makes cleaning a bitch.

But those new plastic pistols will eat it right up, no problems.

DOD Surplus Brass Ban Lifted

Many of us have been following with keen interest DOD's policy change requiring once fired DOD surplus brass be mutilated before being sold to the public - in the midst of one of the biggest consumer ammunition shortages in decades.

Turns out it was the work of a Obama administration low level policy wonk - and thanks to a good amount of public outcry, this inane policy was reversed. Calling your Congressman does indeed work sometimes!

Good read here summarizing the whole cluster f*ck.

This story is interesting, one of the attached files in the link stated something like: ...some Noob administrator wanted to close a "perceived" national security loophole and it wasn't politically motivated.

That makes me laugh and also kind of sad. So the public is supposed to believe that President B.O. hires mostly well seasoned Clinton era figures for the major governmental positions but hires noobs for other important things? AND I'm supposed to believe that the attempt to get 3rd party private medical coverage for vets was an accident too.

I can see it now- Every month B.O. will do TV interviews and say- "Hey I screwed up. It was my fault." ...for how long?

Uhg.

Corrosive Ammunition

I've read about different ways to clean your weapon after shooting it, from useing windex to just soapy water. I want to know what works well for you. I have a this matching K98, 1942 with the most perfect barrel I have ever seen, and 500 round of Corrosive ammuntion for it. As much as I don't want to shoot it, I know one of these days it will happen.

Brake cleaner. All my gun buddies use it. Even one of the Sheriff's armorers I know uses it. I wouldn't use soap and water unless you live in a super dry climate and are very careful.

Hit everything that the gun gas touches with ammonia first. Bore, bolt face, chamber, etc. Then follow up with your normal cleaning method. Ammonia will neutralize the salts which form from the primer's going off; that's what causes the corrosion. Don't use Windex; it won't work. Dorked up a Mosin-Nagant that way.
