Probably forgot to drain the pontoons, rotated, shifted 100 gallons water to aft CG....Whammo! (okay, realistically, probably what every one else said...the guy was a dumbass and got caught by Murphy before Darwin)

I hate beavers and I think he had plenty of airspeed and used all the runway he needed.

Ok, now we can go back to everyone repeating the same thing over and over. ;)

My bud is seaplane rated, and he says the calm lake probably contributed. Apparently, when it's very glassy, it can add a significant amount to your takeoff distance.
Maybe Mr Beaver didn't have the experience to take that into account.

By the way, the Navy flies a Beaver (maybe two),... but not on floats. I think they call it the U-6A.
