I applied and was accepted for an internship and Vivid Entertainment LLC in Glendale and L.A. CA and worked my way up to the key grip position. The days were long, hard and repetitive. At the end of the day I felt raw. So I went into Commercial Real Estate Sales/Leasing in the Inland Empire area. I had to unlearn all my "people person" Navy training (see avatar). You 1310's are so predictable. Over the road driving and manual labor, right!

EWTGPAC has a GS-12 position that mirrors mine. That is, if you could see yourself teaching young Marines how to kill our nation's enemies with CAS...

Luckily enough, I'm particularly qualified for that. Now, if it's still available when my (newly-renewed) commitment is up in 5 years is another matter.

I'm a Marine pilot, and the Marine Corps made me go to truck driving school. Now I'm the only man in the world qualified on the MV-22B, HMMWV, MRAP, and MATV.

Maybe next time don't get a worthless degree from a community college. ;)

Please update this post as each of these qualifications expire. I'm curious as to where the priorities of the Marine Corps lie.

I'm guessing that would affect a DoN job I applied for at NTU?

It is not a government-wide freeze, some agencies have on in place and others don't. If they are advertising the job they likely don't have one in place right now but as PP73 mentioned that could change quickly. If you have any questions contact the POC on the job listing.

Flash - thanks for the info. Applied some time ago and have not heard boo outside of being declared "eligible."

Well I'll have you know that I used to hold a HMMWV license (OK, temporary, so what of it??) and I still remember how to start the engine, check the oil, and honk the horn. Harumph harumph. No big deal. :D

It just might be... There's a federal hiring freeze. Both LANT and PAC positions were created the same time. LANT hired me about two weeks before the hiring freeze. PAC was interviewing people, and now they can't hire someone for a funded billet because of the freeze.

I don't get the hiring "freeze", since they are still hiring people, I guess it just depends on what the billet is and if they deem it critical or not.

Some examples of things guys I know have done:

Contract adversary
Airline pilot
FBI
Highway patrol
FAA pilot
Other government contractor - Northrop, Lockheed, etc.
Start their own business
Law school
Medical school
Investment banker, typically after MBA

That's just the stuff I have come up with off the top of my head. So if you want to fly, go fly. Figure out the "after flying" if and when you need to.
