After Naval Aviation..

Hey AirWarriors,

I am in college at the University of California, Irvine. I have always wanted to join the Marines and now that I have been accepted to a four year university, would like to have the chance at becoming a Naval Aviator.

However, I am majoring in Cognitive Psychology and not the typical engineering degrees. I was wondering what pilots do after a career of flying in the Corps?

I am unsure due to the future. If I stayed in school and went to grad, I would have a stable career, but I want to serve my country. Is it difficult to find a job after? Is it hard going airlines or other professions?

Thank you for your help. I tried searching "life after military" or "life after flying" but didn't come up with much.

Take a look around the forums; there are a few active threads going right now about guys doing stuff other than the airlines after Uncle Sugar gets his pound of flesh. Some guys continue to fly, others further education, and others go into business and do their own thing that way.

That's not the number to the one off of 87 and 90, between Vertol and Bell, that I point out to my studs while returning from Santa Rosa, is it?

Nope. New England Tractor-Trailer Training School. I'm a graduate. My dad used to teach there.

I'm not kidding either.

Getting into EW has opened my eyes to job opportunities I never knew existed before.

Dang... small world!

KBay isn't kidding- course rules is low and close enough that you really can read the phone number on the sides of the trucks... which makes for a pretty good gag. Not sure if it was me or somebody else who first pointed it out to him; I didn't notice until somebody pointed it out to me.

Oh, it was definitely you...on our way back from when you gave me my initial -57 NATOPS check. :D

Out of respect for Jim123, I'll demonstrate some restraint in the off chance he just took a swig of Molson or Labatt's.

Don't try to blame me just because you want to behave like a grownup all of a sudden

No idea. If you figure it out, let me know. I'm going on 11 years and still have no idea what I'll do when I get out. I'm banking on my experience to count for a whole lot more than my marginal GPA in history though.

OP, Life can take a lot of twists and turns in 10 years or 20 or just 5. Do you want to beat yourself up worrying about life that far down the road or narrow your focus to the near future and do what you have to do to prepare for 10 or 15 years down the road?
