I have been told on many occasions "Oh, you're SUCH a guy!". It is not meant to be anything sexual or otherwise weird.
Yes it is .... why DO you think so many 'guys' on this website are givin' you shit about it ???

Suggestion: just walk away from it. Trust me on this one.

Don't be so hard on him
This, by the way, is probably why his grammar sucks to begin with. The guy is what, 15 or 16, and writing "I am a Sophomore is High School." (from his profile) There's just no excuse for that, unless he just moved here a few years ago from another country.

Having said that, if you're still reading this thread, FN84, don't run away scared. People may be piling on you about it, but you if you're at all serious about joining any service, you need to take the criticism and fix the problem, not run away and hide. In the big picture, grammar is probably one of the smallest problems for some of the hopefuls that have posted here. Besides that problem, you may be a good candidate once you graduate.

I guess everyone makes mistakes:

"Griffith is a 2008 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy from Indianapolis, Indiana. He is currently serving as the electrical officer aboard Peleliu for his first division officer tour and will remain on board for a second tour as the fire control officer."
from http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=53802

Or they moved the academy.

I believe that they're saying "Griffith" is from Indy, and he's a graduate of the USNA.

Electrical Officer as a first tour divo aboard a big deck amphib? Something doesn't smell right.

Will. Study syntax. The preposition would make no sense if it applied to Academy. Rather, it applies to the subject, Griffith. The sentence does not say that the Academy is in Indianapolis, but rather, that Griffith is from Indianapolis. The syntax is odd, and stylistically, I would probably have a student of mine change it, but it isn't grammatically wrong.
