Depends where you stick 'em with it --- I recommend the eyes. :)

The 'fella' in the center might recommend that you stick 'em in the throat:

The "artist" will claim that the cartoon is being "taken out of context."
I'd like to meet the "artist" and have him explain in what context it should be taken.

Can giving someone a knuckle sandwich be an expression of free speech? Maybe I can get the ACLU to defend me.:icon_rage

Why is it that when an abhorrent cartoon such as Toles, is published in the free world, it gets a letter denouncing the lack of morals, from the Joint Chiefs, and political and moral debate? That cartoonist will probably loose face, the paper will probably loose patronage. The cartoonist did not kill anyone, he is not guilty of any crime, just a lack of morals, and patriotism. This is what should happen.

Why is it then that those in the middle east think that a cartoon, gives them the right to storm an embassy, and destroy property? Is this not a crime? Again, the cartoonist may have been wrong, as far as the muslim religion is concerned, but why do these people think that it frees them of personal responsibility, and is a blank check to go on a rampage. Is that a equal response? Do you have the right to destroy property because your feelings got hurt? Im surprised and happy that no one has been injured or killed over this. Peaceful protesting is fine, not buying their paper, or completely boycotting any product is fine, but getting your feelings hurt is not a justifiable cause.

Outside of America, things are different.

Why is it just the Mid East? If this is something that is that offensive to the entire religion, why aren't Muslims all over, say, the U.S. engaging in the same behavior?

How can I take the "President of Cartoonists" as a legitimate politicist?

"Maybe they should provide the body armor soldiers need to help avoid the sort of injury shown in the cartoon."....and maybe, sir, you should provide the useless cartoon that you expect everyone to see into as nothing but happy little bunnys representing the peace-loving, tree-hugging liberals against the oppresive and imperialistic americans fighting so that your kids can hate us too.

What's next, Roger Rabbit as a human shield? [/rant]

Ahh...I feel better.

Is there even effective body armor available that can protect the arms and legs? And even if there were, I would assume it would negatively impact the mobility of our soldiers so much that it would leave them as sitting ducks. Also, it would probably extremely heavy and add even more weight to the almost impossible loads that our ground pounders have to carry already.

Just curious. And while I believe that this cartoon is in bad taste and that the cartoonist if probably a total P.O.S., I find it hard to get really enraged over it. Is there soemthing wrong with me? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Wait! Don't answer that.:)

I watched a segment on "Hannity and Colmes" tonight about this. Colmes brought up a point saying that the letter by the JCS was "threatening" and questioning why they didn't have "better things to do" than write "intimidating" letters to cartoonists. I read the letter several times and didn't find it threatening - anyone else? Did anyone else see this segment? It was awesome watching Hannity lay into their guest (also a political cartoonist) about a cartoon he wrote regarding Pat Tillman. The schmuck didn't have a leg to stand on.

Once again it just shows how the left is all about freedom of speech.... as long as you're saying what they want to hear.

Believe it or not, the ACLU defends people who don't hew to the 'left's' agenda often, a few examples like.....

Street preachers: http://www.kvbc.com/Global/story.asp?S=3379553&nav=15MVaB2T

Anti-Abortion preacher: http://www.iclu.org/news_article.asp?ID=97

Illinois Nazis: http://www.kansaspress.ku.edu/strwhe.html

http://www.lyceum.org/events/HD2003/2203/skokie.html

Texas Cheerleaders: http://swiftreport.blogs.com/news/2005/05/aclu_defends_tx.html

Rush Limbaugh!!!!! : http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/1/12/143050.shtml

Student who wore a religous T-shirt: http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/nevada/2005/jun/16/061610228.html

Should I go on? I know that many of you can cite examples of you mihgt think are egregious and horrible things and people that the ACLU has defended but they defend more than you think. And no, I am not a member of the ACLU and I think that they are idiots sometimes, but they do some good as well.
