Still a Pollywog, not yet a Shellback
Bryan, can you weigh in on this?
Is it because we only had 20 people apply for IP and they selected 10?

I would not say "easy to get in" - and in fact, you might not want to keep repeating that in person with peer JOs or the enlisted sailors you're leading. Historically, it has been highly competitive to get selected DCO for Intel, IP, CW, and METOC (especially the last three). Personally, it took me multiple attempts. LCDR @bubblehead got selected for DCO Intel instead of his top choice of IP, and had to apply to redesignate for 1825 after qualifying as an 1835.Can you share your thoughts Hair Warrior?
For this go around since they needed more IP's then yes, IP may have been "easier" from a simple numbers perspective. That is, if they needed 10 IP's and 4 EDO's for this board, the competitiveness for EDO's will be more that IP simply because of the number of selections they needed to make. This may confirm what my OR said about "IP being very easy to get in" compared to EDO.
Hey guys, I was just notified I was selected to an IP Officer! I was applying for EDO but since they lost my MEPS 4 times, my OR put me in for the IP board the first time (I have no IP certifications) and I was selected. Holy cow!
Who cares? There was obviously something in your package that they liked and felt would make you a value to the community. Remember, they do not always pick identical ducks, and as @NavyOffRec said, timing is important.1) Do you have any thoughts on why they would select me (when I do not have any security or IP certificates)? I'm humbled but I wonder if it is highly competitive, I wonder why they selected me vs someone with a certificate.
If you turn down IP you will never get the opportunity to commission as an EDO because the board will not select you. You had your chance and turned it down.I want to serve but sadly, my employer will have a problem with me serving. I do not know if I can accept the commission for IP as my employer frankly said he can deal with the time away for EDO (2 weeks each time) but he cannot deal with the 26 weeks needed for the IP role. I feel stressed as I do not want to lose my job.
@bubblehead, Bryan and HairWarrior, thank you so much!
I really appreciate your nice explanations.

You will mob. That’s what we do.

Not sure why the hell you said anything to your employer. That, in my opinion was a dumb move.
