best thing about not starting drill until JAN - not having to figure out the tax changes to your returns just for one month of drill!!!

I swore in last Wednesday and spoke to my CO Wednesday night. He said that I am already going through the "gaining process" and should hear something from my NOSC very soon.

How is everyone else doing? Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
I just followed up today. No joy. Unit has drill this weekend so perhaps January per my initial expectations. Will be getting my CAC in three or so weeks though, so that is good news.

It could be worse, I am still waiting on my DD368 from the National Guard to even get my FINSEL. Its a lengthy process for Guard guys, unlike reserves that only need their Company Commander, its the first GO in my Chain of Command that has to sign off, its been well over a month at this point.

Just got word that the Approved RRA has bent sent to my NOSC. Perhaps I'll be gained by my unit to attend INDOC in January.

YMMV, but if you complete IWBC prior to completing RNIOBC phases I and II, then that represents a huge change from what the current ENS and LTJG 1835’s have done/are doing. Not saying you are wrong, but I will believe it when I see it.

Same in my unit. The clock starts ticking once you get your commission for qual so I think the IWBC can be waivered for a few years.

This was my understanding of the timeline, I'm sure everything/expectations well be communicated to me once I check into my unit

I've already documented this. You have 60 months from date of commissioning to complete your IWO qualification (the "IDWO pin"). It's all outlined here:

https://www.airwarriors.com/community/index.php?threads/required-training-and-qualifications-for-reserve-information-warfare-community-iwc-officers.46146/

It would serve everyone well to read relevant instructions. That is, everything that is on this web site, as well as the .

BASIC Designator & IWO Qualification Central

  • BUPERSINST 1610.10D - Navy Performance Evaluation System
    • This is the bible for your FITREPs
    • Knowing this will dispel common fallacies as:
      • "Head to toe printing" - this is the way that most Admin officers will tell you that you need to print a FITREP for mailing to PERS. Wrong. It is preferred, not required
      • "Original Signature" - Another common one that often delays FITREPs. Original signatures are preferred, not required.
  • RESPERS M-1001.5 - Navy Reserve Personnel Manual
    • This is the bible for the Reserve
  • SECNAV M-5216.5 - Correspondence Manual
    • How to write Naval correspondence
    • That thing about black ink only that you've heard about forever. Wrong. Blue-black or black ink is permitted.
    • You know how many PS's and YN's who have never read this manual?
Educate yourselves and stop relying on "gouge", thoughts, or opinions of sea lawyers

Trust me, I've been doing this for 16 years and you will be light years ahead of your competition if you read and understand the relevant instructions.

Hey ALCON,

I am submitting a package for the Mar 19 IWC Board, and I'm hitting a weird trend.

In August I got in touch with an OR and started making a plan for submitting next spring. At the time I was told to prep everything, and that the OR had to submit my package NLT 18 Jan 19. Near the beginning of Nov that date was moved to the left by a month. Then while on leave, OR sent an email to my military email stating that the board needed everything NLT 03 Dec (last Monday).

Is this deadline creep happening to anyone else? Or is it possible that the recruiter would just like to have everything pristine before January?

This tread was picked because the March board was mentioned earlier, and I would like to see
