OCS 11AUG25 IWC BOARD // Nerd Thunderdome 2025

So how's everyone staying sane during the wait? I think I've learned the names and life stories of 90% of people at my gym
Working, wrestling with my kid, running, lifting weights, cuddling with other full grown dudes who’re trying to punch/choke me, jerking off, reading, occasionally peaking into this site. But yeah, the waiting and thinking about the worst case does play with the mind.

So how's everyone staying sane during the wait? I think I've learned the names and life stories of 90% of people at my gym
Let’s see.
Wake up at 4 and go to the gym M-F
Go to work to shower and hope to work 8 but normally turns into 10 hours. Fix other people’s problems, try to succession plan in any free space I get and ignore the fact that in a week I might be furloughed or working for free.
Manage to have forgotten I’m waiting for results, until I get asked if I have results (no hate though the sailors who ask me all are rooting for me), and sign in here optimistically only to find nothing.
Return to solving other people’s problems and realize somehow I’ve worked what feels like 8 hours but nope it’s only noon and also haven’t eaten yet so I nuke my lunch.
Try to eat lunch and get interrupted nearly non stop for 2 hours
Eat a room temp lunch and continue to work. Finally the needy sailors go home for the day and I can succession plan for the department leadership and get lost in that for 2 hours.
Hubby calls and asks if I’m okay - realize the time and drive an hour home.
Eat dinner and off to bed by 9 so I can do it all again tomorrow.

So while we’re busy pulling our hair out with anxiety over the board results coming out soon, I’m going to ask for words of wisdom since some of you guys here have served/know a lot about this kind of thing. I only applied to CW but have been told multiple times that I should perhaps also apply to IP and bank on getting a lateral transfer later on to CW.
From your guys’ experience or knowledge on the subject how feasible is this backup plan? Obviously it comes from me stressing about these results (who isn’t right now?) but I also know there’s a very real chance I won’t get selected. The boards being pushed back and cancelled recently have gotten me considering how long of a wait it’d be just to try and try again for only one designator.
Sorry for the paragraph, I’ve obviously talked to my OR about this when applying this first time but just wanted to know if anyone has any firsthand experience that would give some insight. Thanks 🙏

Apply for what you will enjoy, lateral transfers do happen but there are no guarantees. If you apply to something be prepared to do that job for however long you serve for.

Y’all know how much age is like a factor? Like I’m 23 now and when I first started my application it was like a year ago. Like between 22 and 23 is there a big difference in terms of preference during selection?

You should be fine; it's usually more of an issue for those who are older. (From what I've seen at least)
