OCS 11AUG25 IWC BOARD // Nerd Thunderdome 2025

The scuttlebutt I’ve heard today is that there is, in fact, a selection list out there for this board - but the admin chain to approve/release that list contains some furloughed DoD/W civilians which is holding up the release timeline.

The folks I talked to seem to think we’re looking at a release next week at the earliest - but if I’m honest, I’m not sure what another week of processing time is going to achieve if the delay really is shutdown-related (If the right folks aren’t in the office, we’re pretty much dead in the water until they come back or exempted staff step in to fulfill their duties).

Just passing along what I’ve heard - and I also get that results from other boards have released after the shutdown began. Considering this is the IWC however, I wouldn’t be surprised if there really are some additional layers of civilian admin involvement/coordination this list has to pass through before applicants get notified. Just gotta sit tight and drink water until good news (hopefully) rolls in.

I wonder how this works considering the results must have OCS dates included

Did you do a background investigation?
I got a phone call around May this year after submitting my package. It was for a T3 investigation and I spent 4 hours going through all my records on the SF86.
It was extremely thorough, the investigator even already had access to my tax reports, foreign bank account reports I’ve submitted to the IRS. We went through each SF86 items line by line.
Who knows, maybe they’d already know I have a blonde lesbian BDSM fetish based on my browsing history and knew I was a degenerate anyway. — Joking😂
Since I also worked in the Bay Area with maybe 9 folks who were of Chinese nationality closely, I listed out every one of them just to be safe.

Anyway, I just spilled everything out honestly and hopefully that helps?

I hope I’m not the one who’s hamstringing everyone.🙄

I need to hang around the water cooler you do to get the scuttlebutt!

Since we are one of it not the only community with the clearance requirement that’s why I had my thought earlier and it makes sense (oh no logic again) for there to be some additional steps and red tape/civilian admin involved - also with furlough sadly if this isn’t earmarked as an excepted work task that needs to be completed it won’t get done until the persons responsible for doing it return. Just how it works for us federal civilians

The way I’m looking at it now is the further we go the further our OCS dates are maybe? And the less likely we go during Bronchitis and peak snowy/winter season? Beggars can’t be choosers and all just trying to find the silver linings 😅

I have not been contacted by an investigator but my recruiter isn’t stressed about that - for whatever it’s worth 🤷‍♀️
I honestly think only applicants who might have a potentially “tricky” background get contacted? But idk 😂🤣 Might be cool if officer selections also had PSSQs to just weed out before committing to the process. For enlisted, I am aware that some rates up-front require stuff like “all immediate family members should be US Citizens” and DQ applicants who don’t meet the requirement.

I wonder if those dates get added in the approval process and so while there’s a selection list that’s not approved for release yet it might not have dates yet 🤔

I spoke with a DCSA investigator last month and filled out the PSSQ a couple weeks ago. For context, I got in through I-SEL in late July and received notification that my credit history was pulled shortly after. So I'm not sure if a background check happened when my package was reviewed. It might be different for folks at board though.

That’s basically what she said about the “tricky” backgrounds. Mine is pretty plain and boring - literally used to be a police officer, so I’ve passed several very thorough backgrounds between a few different departments.

I went to college overseas. Had the DCSA investigator go over the entire SF-86 about a week before the board convened. No security clearance issues though (I'm a civilian Intel Analyst)

…Joking😂

With specificity like that, why even deny it? 😂

80% of the cohort for my masters program were international students. At least for Intel, you can’t list “international relations” as a desired degree program on your PA and not expect applicants to have a metric heck-ton of foreign contacts/travel in this day and age. That’s just the way most of the big-name IR programs at top schools have moved (and, I’d argue, the applicants you’d most desperately want as IntelOs are better off for it). As long as you exercise good judgment and are transparent, upfront, and complete in your answers when Uncle Sam comes knocking with his list of questions, a sensible investigation process shouldn’t yield issues beyond what’s already out of your control (and should’ve been flagged by the OCM well before your packet even made it to the board - e.g., foreign family issues).

Yeah I just think if they really found a red flag at least I should’ve been told via my OR to look for another designator to save time.😂
