Hey guys, how much does the aviation board weigh our OAR? I got a 46 OAR, but a 6/9/7 so my recruiter is pretty confident about September board, but im worried that my OAR may be too low.

Anyone have any recommendations on how to map the X52 to the Jantzen sim on a Macbook Pro? I tried using the Joystick Mapper app but it hardly works and continuously disconnects making the sim unplayable. Would appreciate any advice.

Additionally, I know the ASTB App has a sim as well, is it any different to the Jantzen sim? Is one better than the other? Or should I use both?

Jantzen sim is superior for stick+throttle, as well as allowing you to combine stick+throttle with dichotic listening and emergency procedures. The ASTB App has good simulators for the UAV and Terrain Recognition test portions, I’d recommend a mix of both.

I have an M1 Mac and was able to connect my T.Flight HOTAS X to use on Jantzen. I used this joystick mapper.

There was a bug where the joystick would freeze mid-sim because the mouse moved off-screen and needed to be re-centered. I wrote a Python script to recenter the mouse every 200ms and ran the code while playing the sim. I attached the code as a .txt file, but you will need to paste it in a .py file (python file) and run it before starting a sim session (run python3 pbm.py) -- ChatGPT can definitely give full setup instructions.

Highly recommend using the sim though, a little Jantzen practice was super helpful for the test. Took it recently and ended up with a 9/9/9/73.

I see, thanks for elaborating! I'll definitely utilize both.

Thank you for this! I'll definitely try it out and see how it goes.

Might be a dumb question but if the mouse keeps recentering, wouldn't it affect my accuracy and stick movement? For example if I'm moving right but the mouse recenters, does that bring it back to the center instead of continuing to follow my input? Not too much into computers so I just wanted to make sure.

From what I’ve read on here it seems like as long as your OAR isn’t outstandingly bad, then they really only care about PFAR/FOFAR. You’ve got good scores in both of those so I would assume you’ll be just fine. Especially if you’re going for pilot with a 9. Good stuff brother!

First attempt: 51 6/7/7

Second Attempt: 58 8/9/8

For my first take I primarily used the ASTB PREP app and the Jantzen Sim with just a mouse and keyboard to study. The app alone was not enough to prepare me for this test. However, it did provide a decent foundation to build upon. I studied 2-3 hours a day for about two weeks for the first attempt. For the second attempt I studied for another 2 weeks, totaling around a month.

Math: Used the Gomez drive worksheets with answers, I went through them once and then did it again. Also used the 100 Math OAR practice questions, practice tests and prep app.

Reading: Only really used the ASTB app and practice tests to study, didn’t spend too much time on it.

Mechanical: Used prep app, practice tests and gouges.

ANIT: I used the cram flashcards and downloaded the app on my phone. I would run through 10-20 cards randomly throughout the day. I started Sporty’s online PPL course in between takes. I wouldn’t recommend it just for the ASTB. However, the introduction and repetition of material definitely helped. I read through the ANIT gouges a few times and used the prep app frequently.

PBM: Use the ASTB Prep app and Jantzen Sim. Buy the X52, you can get it on eBay for less than 100 dollars. Grease the groove, you’re not going to train yourself in a day. I would at least go through the PBMs every night before bed. For the Jantzen Sim work your way up to hard and use the X52, it’s more difficult than the actual test.

General tips: Read the question completely, I missed a question when I had the right answer because I wasn’t thorough when I read it. Between each section I did pushups to calm my nerves. I also brought gum, and ear plugs.

If you’re at all Religious or Spiritual I’d recommend getting yourself aligned with it. I took this test in a very transitional period in my life, and it definitely eased some nerves. This is your future, don’t be hesitant to apply yourself.

If anyone would like my X52 stick and throttle send me a PM and I’ll ship it to you. The throttle is a little stiff but it was enough for me.
