While I didn't stay up too often after lights for reasons other than what you mentioned, I know our staff would often hand out paperwork right before lights out and expect it back by lights on. If you don't want to leave the relative comfort of your rack and go to the head, it's handy. I also...

MEPS and Colorblindness test; new problem for me

Unfortunately, some OSO's don't always know everything they are supposed to. My OSO when I started out (I've got a new one now) didn't know anything about PRK and initially wrote me off as going nowhere. I had to hound them to let me take the ASTB and then hound them some more to get me a...

    "Custom PRK"

Go with the custom. They're your eyes and you only get one pair. Don't skimp because it'll save you a buck. Besides, as it's been said before, NAMI recommends custom.

I have no clue about the boards...my package has been at district for a while and my OSO has been up in Quantico for the past month, so I don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

Just got word from my OSO this evening that I was selected for 196. 288 PFT and 8/8/8 ASTB. Let the drinking commence...or at least somewhat as I've got to PT and then get to work in the morning. Thanks for everyone that's given gouge and good luck to those still waiting to hear.

I'd say a 278 is pretty competitive since you're going ground. Obviously, it's not going to hurt you if you get your goal of 285.

    After the cornea heals...

The lubricating drops are for your comfort. I wouldn't discontinue any drops without consulting with your doctor. So if you're having problems, talk to him or her. These are your eyes, remember. You only get one pair. I'd trust my doctor a lot more than I would people on the internets.

    How many boards meet?

Bad gouge. You need to apply much earlier than 2 months as it generally takes more than 2 months to get your entire package together. I've been working on mine since last August, although I did have to wait for my eyes to heal from PRK. As it's been said before - Apply early and apply often...

The PRK process from start to finish

A contact lens is applied after surgery for PRK. At least that's the way it was done for me. I think the main difference in PRK and its variants have to do with what happens to the epithelium.

    PRK tomorrow AM

I went on the recommendation of my optometrist. I also did some research online and asked to speak to someone who had surgery with him before. You also might want to check to see if the surgeon has a "lifetime warranty" plan, which is generally a good indicator. I didn't have to travel...

    No Waiver Needed for Contacts

While the language does seem geared more for designated aviators, the NAMI site does say that the guide was last updated on March 13, 2007 so it should take into account the SCL waiver changes. Maybe someone more in the know can shed some light on this. It's a moot point for me anyway, since...

-3.00 in both eyes, what does that translate to?

I concur. Luckily, all of my eye docs have been pretty good. I don't understand why anyone would deprive themselves of better vision. It boggles my mind why people wear their contacts only some of the time. If you can't see a TV without them, chances are you can't do other things without...

No, I believe you could do PLC-C the summer before your senior year (2008). Those that are screwed are those graduating this spring and applying for OCC 195. That leaves about 8 months of unemployment/low paying job(s) from graduation to Jan. 2008. :icon_rage

    Flight Physical before PRK?

Honestly, I don't think a surgeon worth his salt would be willing to operate on someone with 20/30, but then again I'm not a doctor. It wouldn't hurt getting a consult from a surgeon - you can usually get those for free. Also, check out the NOMI waiver guide.
